It's been a long time coming but it finally has the sheet to match the stripes :D

I was having problems with the PWR barrel in the car. The main problem is the surface area, being round they waste a lot of area that can be gained if you made it a square and the core is not very well designed. Plazmaman are a local company not far from where i work and i called them up and spoke to Alex telling him my issues with intake temps (it was rising up to 50+ degrees) and after some discussion about my setup he assured me that with their barrell i would see intake temps drop and also said that i would get zero pressure drop through the core!

They have only just released them earlier this year and as PWR are a competing product they were very interested to see how their product would compare and were very accommodating letting me work on the car and do the install and gave me a good deal on the W2A cooler as well in exchange for some feedback.

This is the end result:

After that i got the car dyno'd at Insight Motorsports who have done all my tuning and the results speak for themselves with just this change and an adjustment in tune it made 201.3HP on LESS boost - 18psi with intake temps dropping to a stable 37 degrees.

While it was there Scott also setup launch control with anti-lag (spools the turbo up before launch by dumping fuel into the exhaust manifold) and we also have staged gear/speed/rpm/tps based boost tables added as well. So first gear is 10psi, 2nd gear is 10psi until you hit 70km/h and then it gradually ramps into 15psi and 3rd and 4th are set for 18psi.

When i go to the drags next we will make minor adjustments after each run with the aim of getting consistent times and dialing out the wheelspin.

Here is the dyno sheet:

All i can say is wow and the SMS i got when it was ready to pick up says it all "Your car is mental now." It feels so much more alive and is much more spritely and happy to rev breaking traction in 3rd with ease

Awesome news josh!!

so, its MORE mental than it was before?!?

thats quite an impressive feat :) gotta be happy with that.
i cant believe there was that much difference between the different coolers. Are you expecting it to return quicker times down the strip now?

(i think a minis at the creek run is due now :) , by the way, when does chris get back?)

That is impressive. I wouldn't have thought you'd get such a gain over the PWR intercooler, as they are a highly recommended product.

Geez! awesome results....I bet plazmaman are pretty chuffed with the results also.....

Sounds like your going to have to find a way to slip on some Mickey Thompson L4's just to try and get some traction

Well done Josh mate, with that and the quaife you should break 13 I would think. Well October should be interesting anyway, might have to up the boost... Still dyno sheets are meaningless aren't they (sorry had to throw that one in).

Well done for persevering with the intercooler, obviously you will be notifying PWR of the lacklustre performance of their brand...

Thanks guys, Yea Robbie it never got the mental approval before, but it does now

Should hopefully run quicker times, but there are a lot of variable's :)

Tricky,

Thanks mate no game on  I reached my goal of 200HP :) I do want to get all the cars together however and make a movie one day 8)

awd moke,

To be honest there are better products than the PWR stuff, they spend lots on marketing and have their own V8 supercar sponsorship etc (but so does Supercheap)

A lot of the drag guys are going from PWR Barrells to Plazmaman W2A setups and seeing great improvements on 1100+HP motors. Some where they had two PWR coolers running in tandem and switched to one Plazmaman setup and saw improved cooling and power from less restriction on a cooler smaller than one of the twins.

BIAM,

I hope so  I don't think i'll break them...time will tell if CV's Gearbox etc are all up to this kind of abuse though..

jasonf,

Plazmaman were really happy and will be putting some info on their website, i'm a bit hesistant to try the slicks just yet - want to sort out the setup as it is rather than just throw slicks at it to improve times as we know they will give an improvement but i think i have to get it setup on the radials first before we step up. Also have a high risk of doing a bit of damage

Matt,

Thanks - hopefully should break into the 12's - you would get similar power if you upped the boost a couple psi to match :) October will be good fun 8) Dyno sheet's are just a piece of paper - i believe the true power of a car can't be fudged at the strip. It's not a power contest though - even at the start of my build i was aiming to reach the 200 mark :)

Plazmaman do some really nice coolers and intake manifolds.. A mate of mine had a manifold made up for his xr6 turbo motor and it is very sexy! They do some great gear... Hearing your results makes me want to sell everything else i own just to pour all the cash into the van
