Hi guys,

Can someone identify this spring?

It comes out when I change the Oil.

Car has been running usual other than popping out 2 gear on deceleration.
Which I suspect just a bad 2nd gear.

I just drain my oil and this spring sticking out of the drain...

Surely it's not meant to be in there..

Looks like a detent spring, used in all non-rodchange boxes. There are 4 of em. 1-2, 3-4, reverse, and reverse gate.
No idea how it could get inside the box, 3 are external fitment except reverse, which is trapped in a blind hole.

BTW, diameter is ~8mm not 18.

There are 2 hex plugs near bottom, on the clutch side. They are 1-2 and 3-4 detents.
The reverse gate lockout one is under a big hex plug (or reverse switch) behind the oil filter.
The reverse detent one is inside the casing, cannot be removed until the 1-2? selector shaft and its detent plunger & spring are removed. Then the reverse selector shaft is removed, followed by the reverse detent plunger & spring.

Are you using a standard sump plug. Some of the extended ones had a long spring to hold the magnet on.

What's the problem? "Doing" is the sound a spring makes as it shoots across the workshop.

That's the sound of it reaching escape velocity, never to be seen again...!
