I have two versions of wide drum brakes. One has the 1" spacer in a solid piece and the other type has 8 sections cut out between the stud holes as if to lighten it, part number 21A1279.
Anyone know the difference ?

The 2nd type is Cooper S rear, the 1st type is Mini S (Clubbie).

Both do the same job- my Mini has 1 of each at the mo.

ps. there's another one too- only 19mm spacer bit- used on some Mokes...

another interesting fact is that the front shoes are WIDER than the rears, so i did a little playing round and the wider front shoes fit into the rear drums :D so is there any benefit in doing this?

NO! :?

I've seen this tried a few times.

Unless you pack the wheel cylinders out somehow the shoes won't sit square, and they will wear crooked.

Anyhow, you don't need more braking on the back- on a damp road it's dangerous if they lock up.

Concentrate on getting your Honda discs working...
