Hi guys
I pulled a thread while tightening the drive hub to my disc today. I am going to pull the hub off and retap the thread. Does anyone have any hints or tips?. Whould I be better off to drill it out first and start fresh or just tapp it how it is?. also would I be better off using a UNC tap as its a bit courser? or should I use a UNF? or lastly there is enough room inside the disc hub to fit a bolt, should I just do that?

Oh its cast iron.
Thanks everyone

I'd be drilling out the old thread and replacing it with a helicoil of the original size.

I'd be getting a new pair of rotors, they are pretty cheap... helicoiling an old one is not worth it by the time you buy the kit to do it.

One of your local engineering places might weld and tap it for you with the right inducement - cold cans.

1. You don't weld brake or suspension parts to repair them. illegal.
2. It's cast iron, welding a stressed iron component like a brake rotor is a recipe for disaster. They crack easily enough if you're unlucky, even unwelded..

<edit> trust me, I'm a welding engineer...
