I’ve started reassembling my Mk2 CS jigsaw puzzle after a respray.
Problem is that I didn’t pull it down all those years ago.
It’s been in a million pieces since 1995.
So, I will be making new hydro pipes and I am wondering if there’s a specific order for all the pipes and battery cable under the metal covers.
Eg passenger side, is it hydro pipe on the outside and fuel line on the inside?
Similar question for the driver side. Hydro pipe to the outside and battery cable inboard?
I reckon that they’ll go in there anyway that fits but does anyone know what was the factory sequence

I have some sketch diagrams of the pipes made when pulling things apart.
Happy to post them here but others may have better photos.

My notes have the LH hydro pipe towards the centre of the car and petrol pipe running beside the swage line and towards the outer edge of the channel.

RH has hydro pipe down the middle of the channel covered by the skid strip cover, and brake line alongside outer swage line (mirror of other side's petrol line) and battery cable running between them.

There are pieces of spiral cut plastic hose for all the pipes to prevent rattles where the tangs retain them.

If you haven't done hydro lines before now and don't think in 3 dimensions well, suggest that you form the lines with the shell on its side for easy access, if that is possible. Working upside down was a real struggle for me.

Just checked my photos, hope these help. White one was reassembled as I removed them, red one was a jigsaw puzzle, disassembled by PO.

I feel your pain..... mine has been apart since 1983, and a house move. No smart phones then, but some consolation, at least I did it and bagged/tagged/bottled most things. Still cant find the jack....
Mine had no pieces of hose on the brake or fuel lines. It had the green spiral hose pieces on the hydro lines like cgo's.

Thanks Ausdino for mentioning the pieces of hose, the green hose is original. I did add non-original short pieces of plastic hose to the the brake and fuel lines.

....and what a good idea. I'll do the same at the hard points where the pipes meet the body/clips.

The short lengths of black rubber hose over the brake and fuel pipes have part numbers - 6K751 for the brake pipe and 6K838 for the fuel pipe.

I got some NOS of each from John Smidt many years ago because he had them, but similar split black hose would do the same job.

Thanks for posting this Bill. This is a big help. My old pipes have the correct plastic, spiral covers on them so I will be moving them to the new pipes.

I was looking at the options for bending up the new pipes and I will look at forming them while it’s still on the rotisserie. I reckon that I would have too much trouble doing that job from underneath.

It’s still a bare shell at the moment and I’m pumping Tectyl into every cavity then rotating the shell on the rotisserie to get it to run upside down and sideways. It’s oozing out everywhere

They are a big help.
Interesting that both green and black plastic covers were used on the hydro pipes back in the day. I have mostly black but I have a single green on each hydro pipe.

Yep, it’s the little things that are a challenge for me.
It might seem simple and doesn’t really matter but just as simple as the pipes and cables sitting in the right order is important for me. Might be a bit OCD but it’s going to make for a better car.
It’s going to come together, albeit slowly.....

Another photo, this one showing the position of the battery cable. This was the arrangement before disassembly in 2015, it may have been changed by a PO prior to 1978 when I bought the car, so it may not be the original arrangement.

Does the battery cable go under or over the rear subframe?

My vote is outside of subframe - not between body and subframe.
My Mk2 is as above (although rebuilt by me twice); mini K same (owned from new and never removed subframes).

Was that bracket on the rear subframe specifically there for the battery cable “p” clip ?? Looks a better way to route the cable. Mine has been apart way too many years to remember how it was (39 years). Thanks everyone for the info, will be handy when I get to this stage.
