I've never seen a stock crank pulley bolt too long, indeed some are really too short in the thread. But flywheel bolts, definitely yes. Worth checking.

I've just searched the website which I should have done in the beginning. All the info I needed was already there. Sorry about that and thank you for all the replies. I will try the "remove the engine mounts and lift the engine" method. God know's how I did it in the past, I forget.
I'm not actually sure I've had to do it before with the engine in the car..
My Mini's (think I'm up to number 6) never really gave me any trouble. I'm still thankful it happened today and not tomorrow because I was off on a trip....

How old is your bottom radiator hose , bypass hose ?, now would be a good time to change them if they have too much age on them :wink: .

I don't have one of those 'orrible bypass hoses fitted and the bottom hose is newish and looks fine.

If you have a `orrible' concertina bypass hose (a refugee from Morris Minor parts bin), bin it and fit 1/2" heater hose, which is what the Cooper S had.
Or use 1/2" Pirtek hydraulic hose like I do. Good for 500psi.

i don't have a bypass at all. I've never had any problems and it seems to be a useful/ convenient modification to have?

Sorry, I misread your post. Yes, no prob running without a bypass, most people put a 3mm hole in the thermostat if they do.
