Hi All,

I thought there used to be a register for all the various models but I can only see the ones for the S's, Cooper, Matic and GT's..

there was a FULL list some time ago with all the body numbers listed...

either way, my Dad just bought an 850 shell and needs a lot of work but its a good base to start with, body number is 40234 Tartan Red and it does not have 2 numbers on the ID plate like my CKD 62 so I assume its a full AUS build possibly 63 ish, there is next to nothing with it just the shell, I will see what I can get from the door locks and boot lock also.
It will be a loooonnnggg build though.

Grant

I am thinking an Aust built 12/63

Others have been asking about the 850 register for some years now. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=79486

I believe Mick would not object to an 850 Register being hosted on Ausmini. It would need one or several people to source the data and agree to be register administrators.

Are you saying the contents of that thread are not viewable by you when you click on the link?

Sports850 collected ALL the 850 information including numbers from 3 of my cars.
Perhaps he needs to be contacted.
He was never very willing to make the information public....................

OK, now we are getting somewhere. :)

That thread still exists and is in a folder behind the scenes. I don't know why it was moved from public view but will investigate via Mick.

The topic was started by sports850 (Ian ?) in Feb 2006. Ian was last on here in late 2011 so any contact with him would have to be outside the forum.

The thread has 28 pages. I'll go through the pages to see what data is held and report back.

Some good news and some bad news. :D :(

  • The lists posted in this thread only show the owner's Ausmini username and the colour of the car. The list is in date sequence (oldest car to latest). A red marker indicates the car no longer exists.
  • There's statement by Ian near the start saying he won't be revealing publicly the body number, engine number or other details for cars on the list.
  • Near the end of the thread Ian says he has details of around 180 cars in his register.
  • The posts in the thread are a combination of ID plate photos, number details for specific cars by their current owner or from eBay listings, or statements that a PM with the car's data is being sent to Ian. Also some discussion about the characteristics of 850's and how to identify them.

The thread was moved out of the public area of the forum for a reason. I need to check with those moderators who were there at the time before thinking about moving it back. Maybe there was an objection to the list showing the username of 850 owners. We've avoided this with the current registers by not including anything of a personal nature, or even if the car still exists. They are simply a recreation of the factory production data.

If "Ian's list" is to be used as the starting point for an 850 Register someone who knows him will have to get in touch to see if he is willing to pass the information on to a new custodian and administrator. Alternatively there may be others on here with their own list they are willing to submit.

Here's the contents of Ian's very first post in that thread:

OK, time to get organised and see what we can find out about the 850's that are left and running here. If you have a running or being restored/rebuilt 850 then please PM me with it's details (colour, year (if known), body number, car number (possibly engine number) and condition (original, restored, unrestored, modified etc.) and I'll draw up a list with ages etc. so we can "age" any others we come across. I will not give any details or numbers out to anyone but if someone wants to know where an 850 comes in the list then they can send the numbers to me and I'll let them know how it compares. Any other suggestions about this would be appreciated .

I'm interested in either surviving 850's or details from ID plates saved from destroyed 850's or information from owners manuals.

Morris 1100 and I were swapping our ID plate photos earlier this year and we have of over 135 photos of 850 plates. Happy to share the info.

My 850's body number is 950 after yours and it's an October 63 build.
