Wife's Cooper was factory Black. Resprayed it red.
Coincidently, when we got it, it was painted a similar green with white roof and stripes.
body #1998 / 997.
Garry"s has a great finish.

Very nice.
This one is 2706 (has 2701 on the radiator panel... any clus as to why these numbers might be different?)

Very rough and a tonne of work.
Battery box rusted and boot floor pushed in.
Front guards replaced over the existing (poor join in 'gutter').
Bogged up where things don't line up.

Has Leyland seats, no headlining, heaps of other missing bits.
A 'basket case' by definition but good for someone with far too much money to take on at the 5k asking price

The colour is "Black" there is no tints, it is black.

The BMC/Berger Paints touch up paint number is HYL3920/5131 (the 5131 is the paint code, the HYL3920 is the BMC part number for a small tin of paint)

The big Melbourne BMC/Leyland dealers Kellow and Falkiner had the number KF 2222 for their touch up spray cans of Black which is a Dulux number.

I have a black 850 with a red interior 64 model I think. I have to do a full resto on it. It has 'black' on the id plate.

Mick, those photos really tell a story - car looking a bit tired, house needing a bit of attention and the guy looking somewhat forlorn! Absolutely brilliant. Could be in a photographic display.

2706 /2701?
My wife's is 1995 under the BMC Australia plate, then 1998 further down.
My understanding is there were some inconsistencies as they assembled them. The English stamped them, then they got another stamp and plate as they finished them on the line.
Depending where and how the parts were stacked and re-stacked for assembly line.
Alex.

One number is the body number and the other number is the car number. There is no inconsistencies and both numbers were stamped in Zetland.

My wife's 66 Austin Super-Deluxe is factory black with red trim. But I guess you are primarily referring to the Aussie build cars. Not UK imports.

Cheers Brett. A beautiful car indeed.
Gives a good idea of presentation, as the Cooper also shares sliding window doors.

Did the Morris Cooper come with chrome window trim surrounds (on the doors)?

All UK spec Coopers had the trim around the top of the windows. But I am uncertain about Aussie production.

Yes the Morris Coopers here all got chrome around the windows, 850s did not.
Early Coopers also had real 6pc S/S trim along the wheel arches, not the later plastic rubbish.
