Webers are fine carbs but usually give less low end torque than an SU will.

For your auto, I would follow GR's 68mm (1220cc) engine build, use his Weber 44IDF downdraft carb + steel manifold setup.
Like he did, I would drop an 1100 crank in there instead of your 998 one to give you more torque, which the auto is crying out for.
Ain't no substitute for cubic inches if you're after drivability.

I would forget the S/C or a turbo on an automatic. I can see it having clutch and band problems if you do it.

not much point doing up the 998 if its auto cause the gearbox is in 4th by the time you're doing about 30kph lol.

I'll just build the clubby up and stick to a 1275 auto in the roundie
