Yesterday I put all the pieces back together! Only need to bleed the brakes and torque up some bolts and it should be on the road again :)

I got my handbrake working and adjusted my back brake at the same time, even though I want to to replace the wheel cylinders but at least the adjusters are now moving freely. YAY no more wooden block holding it in place!

Started planning how I wanted to run the new wiring loom in the car, I'm trying to have it fairly hidden, I am aiming for good planning so I only have to run the wires once. I have divided the actual loom up to how I want it, now to get it in the car.

Also benched tested some electrical parts, heater fan, windscreen washer bottle, horn etc.

Flip! Stripped a thermo cover bolt today. Off to all the auto shops tomorrow to see if I can get hold of a 5/16 UNC helicoil set.

Still, owning a mini means I'll get to use the tool over and over...

And does anyone know what radiator cap I need. The one on there looks a bit dodgy and doesn't have any markings. Filler is 3/4" deep to the lip and it's an 850 with no overflow. 13lb?

I've been meaning to take it off the road for a bit to rebuild the suspension and do some other little bits, but i'm just having too much fun driving it.
So i just drove it around today and enjoyed it, took some photos in an empty carpark, then had some fun in said carpark, which may have involved some handbrake-turn attempts

Good grief! If you screw up a thread, drill it out and helicoil it. Do not use the-next-size-up metric!

So, after I've worked out why the original bolts won't go into my helicoils, I have to remove the lot four times:

  • I bolt the thermostat cover down without fitting the thermo.
  • Coolant leaking past one of the bolts.
  • I bolt the thermostat cover down without fitting the thermo again.
  • Coolant leaking past another one of the bolts.

Corrosion is bad around the thermostat seat and the bottoms of two mounting holes exit into the water jacket.

My day just gets better. I think I've stopped all the leaks but I'll have to run it and find out for sure.

You do realise Supercheap are NOT so cheap, any more? Check out Karcraft's prices, I bet they are cheaper filters and better quality too.
Wix filters (made in Poland)-
Air, $9.27
Oil, $10.47 (matic one)
