Hey Guys,

Came across some weird stuff on cars in my days and thought I might share and get other peoples responses on their experience.

1:I've seen a bread tin used to make an intake plenum for Webers
2:Sink drainhole sives put in exhaust flanghes to pass DB tests
3:On a web site, egg cups converted for weber trumpets
4:HB Toranna mags on minis (same stud pcd)

anyone got some good ones?

Hey Trev the Moke has Gemini Hubs  nothing wrong with that

and we're using 12V halogen downlights for lights in our minis, should be good when done 8)

OT, but I'll jump in anyway...

Gemini wheels do not have the same stud pattern as a Mini or a Torana. Mini, Hillman Imp and Torana HB, LC 4cyl are 4" PCD (101.6mm). Gemini rims are 100mm PCD.

You should not be using Gemini rims on a Moke. The wheel nut do not sit squarely on the taper. This tends to chew out the wheel studs and the stud holes in the wheel. Eventually the studs snap or the wheel cracks around stud holes and comes off. I have seen it happen TWICE.

hey bnicho, do you mean tearing the wheel off leaving just a washer type piece of the rim still under each nut?? cos ive had that happen.. freaked me right out .. was on a home made offroader. (austin A30 with holden 6 from an ek, duel wheels etc) cornering full noise in beach sand.

In one case three studs fretted and snapped on a rough road. The remaining stud bent and the thread stripped and the nut came off. It was definitely the rims as the studs on all four corners had chewed out where the rim was contacting them.

I have also seen a case where one stud snapped, the wheel moved around and hugely enlarged/cracked the stud holes in the wheel. Then the wheel parted company from the vehicle leaving the mangled nuts still on three of the studs.

EDIT: 68Matic - Some people have 13" mags on Morris Minors, Austin A30 etc, which have the same PCD as a Mini/Moke. So look at some minor specialists and swap meets. They probably don't realise they will fit a Moke too, so you can get 'em cheap.

You can even use stock 14" Minor rims and low profile tyres. My box trailer has Mini stud pattern and 13" rims on it. I think they are from an A30.

HB, LC and LJ 4cyl rims (4 stud) have the same PCD as a Mini/Moke. :)

Are they 12" or 13"?

If thinking of using Imp wheels I've been told the centres are not real strong. Can tear out around the stud holes, a la very early Morris 850 ..

OTOH my bro' has on his Imp a set of 12x5.5 ones I widened for him years ago, they survived many rallies etc and are still in one piece..
ps. the Imp is hitting the street again soon- he came 3rd last year in HDCC's gymkhana comp with the RWD Mazda 323, reckons he could have won with the Imp..
