Hi pissed of that piece of crap chinese rad.

stupid thing was making my car over heat, so many problems.

so now i'm at ease, my car is running like a dream & i'm using a 2 core mini spares super cool rad.

now it's odd but the car is running to cool? it's confusing really.

the gauge now wont read even a quarter of the way, with this new rad in.

one think i know is my thermo fan is coming on to early & i will address that tomorrow.

but has anyone had a this before?

i mixed the coolant correctly with demineralized water & used water wetter also.

i have the correct thermostat etc also.

just seems to be running very cool lol.
in saying that car is running alot better more torque now & alot smother.

any ideas.

Would be interesting to do a flow check on your ally one and the new 2 core one and see how much difference there is. Do you have another rad there that you can compare it with? Just fill them both up with water and time how long they take to drain, maybe reduce the bottom inlet size with some hose so it slows everything down a little so you can get a better idea of which one drains quicker.

Did you run a coolant flush when you had the ally one in? It may have dislodged a lot of built up crap and clogged up the core.

As to the cold running, if the ally one was blocked up and was causing heating problems, then I imagine you'd have set the thermo fan to come on earlier, in which case with a non blocked radiator it is probably coming on too early and hence the cool running.

I used to run a thermo fan but since I put a new rad in (chinese ally one but that's beside the point), I haven't needed it on once, even on 40 degree days.

If everything else is in good order a thermo fan should only be necessary if you have the engine mounted fan removed.

edit: unless you have the supercharger in, is that installed yet?

Cheers

I'd be looking at your thermostat and temp gauge sender.

Try a new capillary temp gauge?

super seven the alloy rad is new. i have done maybe 5000km on it & as soon as i put it in it run hotter then my aussie reco 3 core i had in it.

had all the right stuff coolant mixture was right water wetter etc, just did not want to play game.

so now im back to uk super 2 core & it's fixed everything.

Temp sender is fine

thermo stat is fine also.

the thermo fan was running to early so fixed that now & it's now running solid at 1/4 perfect.

the alloy rad did not work for me to many problems, maybe mine is dodge not sure.

but ill stick with the uk super 2 core.

I have the 2 core from MiniSpares, They run cool.. I have no Thermofan, they are just to good of a radiator, :D I personally prefer that my Cooper S motor runs cool, its better than overheating and damaging my Downton Head!

NG, don't trust any temp gauge. Mine is out by miles and shows 80% to H as being the correct running temp, which for a hot tuned mini should be around the 93deg mark from memory.

Best is to buy a $20 digital thermomenter from Electronic Dick or fleebay, start the car cold, open ratiator cap, pop it in and record temp readings versus gauge readings. Then you know for sure.

FYI Mine's always run cold from a regular stock mini K radiator. I had to increase the thermostat to a 84 or 87 degree can;t remember. But I can tell you that the car runs noticeably better when hot and at operating temps.

(sorry for my absent mindedness, but I write it all down in my log book so as I don't have to remember these things off by heart!)

You have answered your question right there. The thermostat governs the coolant temperature unless the cooling system is inneficient, in which case it would overheat which your temp sender would tell your gauge. Or unless you are bypassing the thermostat in which case it could very well run too cold.
