Hey Pubs - I would REALLY like to see/hear details how you integrated the Starlet wiper motor with the Mini... please? :(

I know a few of you have been using the KKR turbo with good results. Its either a TD04L or a KKR280 (is some other TD?? off a forrester which meant to be smaller)?

Thanks in advance guys

Cheers

Looks good man.

I'm actually waiting for the DPI to send my mod approval to my correct address ( ) then I should have it over the pits in the next few weeks. It must be such a feeling of acomplishment to have it registered! ....I can't wait.

I actually have a Forester turbo in my shed. The designation is TD035.

Looks like a good step up from the CT9, but not too big.

Has any one done any reasearch into the CT12 off the Toyota 1Js and 2Js? Do they use the same flanges as the CT9s?

The CT12 uses a totally different flange so are no good, may be able to make up a bit of a hybrid though of the two
I would probably go the KKR280 route T2 flange, cheap and known to work well.

hi guys,

just thought I'd upload a pic of the whole car with the new wheels etc.. I bought some sportspac arches to fix on since the new wheels stick out too much!.. I don't want to get pulled over by the boys in blue.

My thoughts exactly.. if the turbo screws up.. buy another one! :D

My boost controller isn;t working properly.. takes a LONG time to build boost.. surely it can't be the wheels! :(

That's easy to test. Block the line/hose leading to the wastegate and see how quickly the boost climbs without the controller attached (By saying this, I assume you have a boost gauge to monitor boost levels) Just be really careful that you don't build too much boost and back off at a safe point (your normal max boost) as the wastegate won't open at all with this configuration.

The parkers are contained within the main globe (They look like the H4 halogen replacement headlights) and the indicators are probably the square clear ones at the bottom of the main grill.

I doubt those blinkers would be legal here in NSW, they are too far in from each side.
I like the intercooler plumbing there though!

edit> I said parkers by mistake, lol

Hey Pubs,

Was wondering what did you do with the speedo?

Did you simply just plug it in? If so it would over read (Ie. read a higher speed than the actual speed). Did you make a gearbox or something or was the difference so insignificant?

Reason I ask is that I'd like to use the Starlet cluster as moving to electronic guages can be very pricey, and the Starlet cluster is free.

Spot on. I had no issues with the parkers or the indicators from the Regency boys..

My boost controller is officially stuffed. NOT HAPPY! The solenoid works fine but the actual IBC doesn't give enough signal to drive the solenoid. it just makes a buzzing noise. I have emailed Gizzmo. We'll see what they say

Thats a long story :D I found another toyota dash which has an electronic speedo and transferred all the bits behind the face plate into the starlet dash. The odometer and trip meter matched up with their holes pretty well so I'm happy. Its a simple 3 wire installation ( +12v, ground & signal)
I then went to the wreckers and got a electronic speed pick-up unit for the gearbox. ( just took in the mechanical one and matched it up - cost me $30)
I then got a speedo corrector unit from Jaycar and tuned it with the aid of a GPS unit..
She works without any issues.
so yeah.. a bit of work if you want to do it right. Connecting the cable is not too good.. readings will obviously be out

Anyone doing a 4EFTE conversion and wanting to retain the standard Starlet dash/instrument cluster (has a mechanical speedo cable just like the Mini) you simply need to take it to an instrument workshop to get it recalibrated. For big changes like Starlet => Mini wheels, you can install a mechanical ratio box between the gearbox & dash. Last time I looked, these boxes are at least $150.
