Guys,

I know it sounds weird, but my girlfriend doesn't want to drive stick, but wants to drive the mini I bought her, I have sourced a Matic Engine, Gearbox and Subframe, just wondering if anyone can tell me what else I have to do for the conversion.

Cheers,

Michael

I'm pretty sure it's just unbolt the subframe (with engine and box in), lift the body off, drop the body on the new subframe (with engine and box in).

Autos were all hydro suspension, if your car is too it's just a subframe etc swap job- then mount the shift in the car, and hook up the neutral safety switch into the (red/white?)wire from starter switch to solenoid.

<edit> driveshafts may need sorting too- autos use the same Hardy Spicer inner U/Js as a Cooper S.

The car in point is a 1964 Morris 850 Minivan. Not exactly sure what gear is in it subframe wise, at current it has 1100 with 4-speed.

You would have to fit your dry suspension into the auto's subframe. No way the autobox will fit in a manual one, and it's too hard putting hydro into a `64 car- no underfloor trays there for hydro pipes. Not impossible, but... :?

The auto's inner `S type' U/Js will fit your 850's driveshafts- splines are the same.

My 1965 Deluxe is hydrolastic but does not have the underfloor trays for the hydro pipes (from what I can tell it has 850 floorpans, factory) - they just run bare underneath the car.

Anto.

True. Some early Deluxes were like that. The trays were added to stop rocks etc busting the pipes.

Thanks for the speedy replies guys,

Anyone care to hazard a guess as to how much this subframe stuff will cost?? If it's too expensive, I'll just tell her that I'll take the car, and wait till we find one that's already auto.
