I just dug out a Lucas 29D dizzy- its marked as 29D, the year is '68 and the serial number strarts with 6 rather than 4. The vacume advance dial is missing and the point where it goes in is sealed with some plasteline type material.

Anyone knows what they were fitted to and whether they're any good? Is this a conversion to non vacum or could it have been made like that? And how well would such a seal work?

Cheers,

I've got a 29D on a 1098 (out of 13secmini's Clubbie). They work OK. Will still work OK without vac, provided the breaker plate has been screwed onto the one underneath. 8)

I drove round for ages (maybe years) without the vac advance working on my 29D dizzy. Replaced the diaphragm to fix it, and I can't say I noticed any difference!

For a 1275 project, would a 25D or a 45D4 have any advantages over it?

I like 45Ds only because I have a few of 'em (all non-vac). Nothing wrong with a 29D, but I've only seen them on 1098s- you may need to play with the centrifugal advance springs, or, not. Try it if U got it.. 8)
