I think it will give any 16valve mini a run for its money, the power is very linear and smooth and there is absolutley no noise which is a bit strange, just plenty of power.

I will hopefully be taking it to the EV expo in sydney next month, hopefully i can sort some batteries out by then.

Cheers Phill

Very impressive Phill, are you able to bring it to the drags on the 15th October? i'd love to see how it goes up against a few 16V and A-Series Turbo Minis down the 1/4 :)

Fantastic, Phill. Conversions like the ones on here give credibility to Australian 16v Engine conversions. Tricky, Mini Mad, etc. They show that not all conversions look like backyard jobs - that they can be neat, tidy, well engineered, reliable. And desirable. What you've built does the same for Electric conversions. :D Great work.

And, with oil prices jumping US$25 overnight, heading back towards where they were a few months ago (and before diesel went back down to anything like pre-spike levels), it's something that will be back in people's minds again. Your car shows that electric doesn't have to be boring - it can be a lot of fun! 8)

As soon as its finished ill bring it down for a run but it wont be next month. I didnt take any photos of the battery pack as it wasn't permanent.

The ev expo is on the 19th of october have a look on this page for details
http://sydneyaeva.googlepages.com/index.html

I am definitly summing up wether to bite the bullet and get a lithium iron pack, they are cheaper in the long run, but its still a big upfront cost

Phill

I'm very impressed.... my 11 year old is becoming too much of a greenie, but I might convince her to drive a mini when she gets older if it's electric

I'm confused aswell :? either he's saying the motor doesn't use many amps (which is good) or that the thing he invented is in the back of that car charging the motor in the front :? I don't understand.
I think what he invented is a generator that once powered up )by an alternate energy supply) will run itself (perpetual motion) and then some so over 100% efficient (which as far as the world knows is impossible and if this was the case I think we would have heard about it).

That's an old video... I believe he's saying his device - shown in the first half - is in the boot. I believe he's saying that maintaining a speed requires fewer amps, which probably works better with his device. :?

His device... It looks like a flywheel which uses magnets to give more energy than is being input from other sources (i.e. his finger when he spins it up). What people don't realize is that it's not a perpetual motion machine, because, even if it were to run forever, he's saying it's using magnets to power itself. Magnets are an energy source. They do eventually die out, but, even if they didn't, they're still an energy source. Thus, given it has an energy source (albeit one most people look past), anything using magnets is not a perpetual motion machine. :)

I will say, he doesn't actually give anything of real value in details... :? All he says is that it's magnetic, it'll keep itself running, and he's got an electric car. The 'surge technology' thing he's talking about is trying to smooth out whatever magnetic setup he's got, which presumably is, in other incarnations, rather jerky... He certainly doesn't present very well.

But hey! All that's off topic really - nothing to do with a quick little Mini in country NSW. :)

Have you had any of the oil companies offer to buy the design off you yet? That's and awsome effort, well done

I'm really impressed with this. There's a bloke near us who has an electric datsun 1000... damn thing is so slow its laughable. Im a petrol head but also a greenie, so sometimes its hard to sleep at night with all this inner turnmoil :? kidding... But im really really pleased to see cars such as this that could provide power, reliability, style and cheap running costs.

Drive an electric mini to work and dont get relegated to a soulless riceburner like the rest of the masses, save the gas guzzler for a few weekend laughs. Perfect!

You sir have restored my hope for the future

I know this should probably be posted under "Other Marques", but I thought it's also a good way to keep this thread near the top.

Porsche reportedly considering releasing Electric Car next year. Surprising, because 2009 is before any of the battery patents run out - so there is a possibility they could drop the price in 2010. Or, they could just continue to be the most profitable car company in the world.

Any further progress Phill? Or are you too busy with the influx of bogans and enthusiasts into town? :P  s Or watching the race? Or crying over what happened to the exchange rate..?

Hi All

My Electric Mini will be at the Australian Electric Vehicle Association open day this sunday in Rouse Hill for all to see. Go to this web site for more details

www.aeva.asn.au (Sydney branch)

I will have my electric vehicle conversion business up and running in 8 weeks, so if any one wants a mini converted to electric get in contact with me and we can go through some more details.
I have also compiled a Build journal which should be available late November or early December, it includes everything from buying a mini to installing the drive train and battery pack. Keep a look out on my web site for availability.

Cheers
