That seems quite reasonable. If you were aiming at selling them for $1800 I would start higher and come down.

Good work Matt.

Matt,

For $1800 I think that's damn good value.

I for one would ask potential customers of mine have they thought about the Twinky conversion if their budget is tight.

I take your point about the Jap conversions - yes they are dearer and they are more complicated and yes there are more modifications needed.

But, no harm done and best of luck with it all - I am sure you will have your hands full with orders!! :D

Cheers,
Tricky

sweet, thanks Tricky, & yeah there is a lot of intrest in the Twinky conversions, that`s for sure,,, there are also a heap of people not quite keen enough to throw their hard earned at one yet, until they see some good HP numbers & i`m in the process of setting up 3 Twinky engines, one turbo injected 16v 1360cc,,, one N/A 8v 1293cc,,, & an N/A 8v small bore donk & hoping to be able to show their qualities to the masses, but the big problem is that there is only one of me & time runs away very easilly & then all my normal customer work & daily life in general gets in the way of progress :-)

I probably should have shut my workshop doors for a year or 2 & just concentrated on the Twinky kits alone, but the bank doesn`t accept spanners & sockets as payment :-)

You should do one yourself :-) you could call it the "Tricky Twinky" :-)

cheers mate

When you consider that 500-600 can easily be spent "doing up" a standard head...I reckon they are good value, especially, with the lifetime after sales service :!:

That's how I reason too  Matt, I'm very interested in one of these kits for the 1100...

I remember something about being able to use an 850 block, and I have one sitting in the corner :D I shall have a chat with you tommorow

As with Andy, your statements are correct in a lot of ways and equally wasn't trying to stir up a starlet's nest about this, just thought I would address a few things. You are right about the Starlet gearing certainly (I have 12" wheels on at the moment. It is not a bad cruiser and they are pretty quiet engines but they have quite close ratios I believe to keep the revs up where the turbo is still pumping, and certainly no tall 5th gear. But as stated for the price Matt excellent effort and I think you should maybe bump it up a bit as $1800 would get you an average halfcut if jap conversion are taken into account. Well done.

Cheers

Matt

Thanks minstar, you`re obviously a knowlegable & understanding person & i appreciate your sentiments, Way too many people tend to take offense at my logic, & yet both you & archangel have totally understood what i have said & it`s a breath of fresh air to read what you guys have responded with,,, thank you.

as i`ve said, it`s difficult to be able to state the obvious facts without stepping on someones toes , somewhere along the line,,, & soooo many people are very one sided,,, as for me , well i`m open to all sorts of different conversions (obviously),,, but there are lots of people who are genuine & passionate Stock Std fanatics, & then there are sooo many others who are dead against the A-series donk & then we have the un-initiated "sit on the fence"s & it`s hard to please everyone hey?

good on you both for the intiial comments (they needed to be said) & i thank you for your understanding

No worries Matt, one of the reasons I refrain from posting very much is exactly that, no matter what you say you will offend someone and half the time it isn't worth the effort. Glad to see you took my comment in the way they were intended.

The trick is to try and offend everyone and then you won't be dissapointed.

hee hee, Morris1100, i seem to do that quite often & without even trying :-)

I just priced up the broaching of the mini cam pulley bosses to cut the ket ways & it looks like we are better off just buying the tool & broaching them all ourselves, so i`ve ordered it & as soon as it arrives i`ll get onto doing them,

I`ve just recieved all the dowels for the Bimmer Cam pulley bosses so i can rip in , locktite & punch all those into place, now all we have left is to finish the crank pulley spacers & make all the cyl head plate lower flanges

Once all that lot is done, then i`ll be sitting there for a day or so, setting up all the bolts into their respective cam pulleys & bosses so they`re all bolted together, & then packaging up all the bolts nuts & washers, belts & tensioners, all the plates, flages etc into packets & labeling them all, ,, i still have to "de-dag" (smooth off all the edges) of all the plates etc so people don`t cut themselves while handling them & it`s only a few hours on the router & job done.

& then i just need to add up all what they have cost me, & from what everyoine is telling me i should double that figure & charge them all out at that,,, BUT!!!!!!!!! as i`ve said, i will only be wanting a few kits for myself, so i`ll cost it all up, divide it all by 26 , (30 kits in total, but i want to keep 4 of them) then whatever that price ends up will be what i`ll charge for them

everyone happy with that???

Edit--> Oh & i`ve effectively made up 10x 16v kits & 20x 8v kits & if they all sell out quickly (which going on my pre-orders seems qite likely) then i`ll do another batch & make some money on them, so please do expect the 2nd batch to me more expensive OK?

& don`t forget i have N/A extractors & turbo manifolds & dump pipes allready made up & ready to go too,,,, i`m also working on a batch of water outlets & oil filler/oil drains & breather packages & also top radiator brakets & L/H engine steady bar brakets too ,,, i am also trying to sort some time to make up a lower radiator pipe to fit in-place of the usual lower radiator hose.

it`s all happening boys & girls :-)
no rest for the wicked :-)

Hey Matt, can you add me to the list for a N/A kit.
I think one would work well on a Morris 1100.

Yeah no probs, but can you send me an e-mail cause my list is inside a folder of my e-mail system thingy :-) & it makes it really easy just to move your e-mail into this folder with the rest of them, rather than me "making up" a pretend e-mail & sending it to myself

:-)

ok, yeah i`m a dork :-) get over it :-)
