Why do you care?
It's not going to make much of a difference

the same reason you use gel....

because i think it'll look good..

Kev, I could be in the market for a pair to suit 1.5 su's, they look fine and should work good also! If you have any to sell feel free to PM me.

If you believe David Wizzard, stubstacks are better than ramtubes...

But... Of course ramtubes are more like carnival! :D
I guess no one will actually feel a difference in performance (if you don`t count sound to performnace), maybe a few perfenc more or less on a dyno.

I would (and do) prefer ramtubes! :D

One worthwhile benefit of stubstacks (or ramtubes) is better fuelling at low RPM as the carb's mixture control works properly.
It's also possible to bung your HS2-4-6 in the lathe and put a radius entry on it, similar to what an HIF has.

Im also able to fit standard style air filters over the top of them. Ive got Uni Filters in there at the moment.

Bringing this old thread back up-
I'm now machining some HS4 stubstacks for Barney, will post pics in a day or 2 when finished.

These are specifically designed to go inside Ramflo filters, are similar to my Weber/Dellorto stubstacks- and will work best with the non-offset backplates.

HS2 stubstacks will be available too.

Price for both HS2 and HS4 will be same as Weber ones: $50/pr,
or $27 singly, posted.

A few years ago I found K&N stubstacksprovided a 2% increase in HP; the addition of K&N filters had no impact. However, they needed considerable work to make them fit the HS4s and even more to fit the filters.

Stubstacks smooth the airflow into the carb (to increase the amount of air the engine will flow). Ram tubes are stubstacks on stalks. Ram tubes are used to tune the inlet tract length - important on some engines but not really on Minis.

Airflow is better smoothed than not - but don't expect miracles (or much at all).

Cheers, Ian

Well Ian, they make a noticeable difference on my Dellorto 45, particularly low and mid speed throttle response.
Vizard seems to champion their use.

Graham Russell puts a radius on his HS6s in the lathe, says it makes a difference.
Interesting how HIF carbs have a radius, HS ones don't. maybe SU are learning...

I've not driven this car today, I'll see how it goes tomorrow.
<edit> these Ramflos have Unifilter foam, it flows much better than the original stuff.

<edit 2> OK I drove it to work, it seems to make marginally more suuuuuuuuuucking noises so I guess airflow is improved. It's definitely going better, I think.

As I said Kev, I found a measureable difference in back to back testing - I think.... So I suppose something is better then nothing. .... but.

You can spend (what I considered to be an unreasonable amount when the mail order package arrived) or just file a radius on the inlet side of the carb.

Unfortunately your devices would not fit under my K&Ns. Have you done any testing to see how a carb flows with and without your stacks?

IMHO, if you've got em..use em. Otherwise you need to be careful how you spend your money.

Cheers, Ian
