so it could work out around 5 grand to get it going?? what about the bottem end, what would need to be done for it to hold 170hp?

Next thing is the gearbox, will it hold 170hp all day everyday?

IMO, if you can get 170+HP from any A series it will not last too long. Ask the racers, they have to rebuild pretty often...
Likewise the gearbox, but at least without a turbo on it's less heavily loaded- lots less torque into it than turbo.

Hmmm well I trust the Doc's opinion greatly... If he says a 170hp A series wont last...

I guess I will have to look into the GT starlet conversion

WELL

I have had this debate with my self many times too.

I think one day i still will do an 8 port with turbo and injection, i love what brad has done and his car is a very big credit to him, but I do love the A Series engine, i think i would be making around the 150 to 160 HP mark on 16 psi and it is crazy to drive with the torque steer.

I say if you got the money to blow and you want to do it then do it, as the bits break replace them with new better items, i first did my turbo conversion when I was a second year app and its still not sorted 8 years on. i have only blown one diff, and worn out one g/box, this motor has been together since 98 and the bottom end is still the same even the rings (now getting a little smokey) but still good, this complete set up on mine to do again would be about 6 to 7k allot of money yes but allot of fun too all comes down to personal opinion

Hmmm... I like Jags, but..
Benefits I see of fitting a Yank Chev 350 into yer old XJ6 or 12:
1. It's lighter, and mounted further back, so the car handles better.
2. It has more power and torque.
3. It gives better economy.
4. Parts are affordable. Cheaper to fit a new Chev than fix the old Jag motor.
5. It is more reliable.
6. Go-fast goodies are everywhere.
7. Transmission (Turbo 400 etc) is better than the Jag's old B/W.

Downside- yeah they are worth less, I guess.. so maybe one day I can afford one!

Mate of mine had a Series 3 Xj6 with a S/B Chev in it. Ran 11.92 with 150hp shot of NOS down its throat. Was running slicks with radial fronts. Bid no no. Stepped out on him top track at 120-130 mph. New jocks were sought at once.

my mechanic mate has an XJ in his workshop now that has a fist sized hole in one side of the block, and a three fist sized hole in the other. The guys wife was driving along when suddenly the engine started tapping loudly and kinda didn't have any power... they're building another jag motor, it won't cost that much. Chev motors are too light, they screw up the front suspension

My dad has a '66 S type, it's a nice car, he had to get a head rebuilt for it - $1500 :(

I've got a mate who had a complete series 1 XJ taken away by the wreckers... it wasn't that bad, not good, but not worth throwing away

i was working for jaguar up until a few weeks ago,

tell u the truth, they are overated!,

a $270000 xj8 still has plastic chrome door handles,

all alloy body, very good, but with sydney hail storms recently, would do alot of damage!

the S type R is the way to go over all the jags, including the XJR, and XKR, they all share the same supercharged 4litre ford V8 putting out 298Kw

the s type feels the tightest out of the lot!,

and ive planted the lot!!! :D :D :D

cheers
