This would have been how much it cost to get someone else to build it. Of course I spent less as I did alot myself...

I got my bro-in-law to help do a service on my mini (as he is a mechanic) for some beer. Its a great bartering tool. However he tried it with his marine mechanic and found out he doesn't drink alcohol. So beer is not always going to work, sometimes we need to spend money. (however I'd change mechanics as you cant trust a man who doesn't drink).

those prices seem way too much, maybe if they were supplying everything...
as was mentioned, shop around..

at the moment morris mania is building my 1360, and i am happy with the price its costing.

Morris Mania told me around 6-8 grand for a 1430 back when I was shopping for a motor. He would ahve come down on that and that was a figure of the top off his head I'd say. But that wouldn't have been nearly as 'race' as the spec they gave you. You need to ask yourself..."Do I need it?"

I read back and saw Rhemac is doing it. Shop around. They are very expensive on labor. I know, I paid much more than i should for a tune up and a few other little bits. But that was muchly my fault for wasteing their time, which they charged me for.

I've heard from about 4 people saying for machining, especially Mini machining, they are second to none. Expensive, but as they claim, worth it. Also I don't think you need brand new carbs. I got a HS6 carby for 40 bucks. And a mate of mine got twin HS6 (1 3/4s) for 35 bucks (absolute bargain!) 100 bucks should get you a pair of HS6 carbies. Which i ahve been quoted by some Land Rover people. Of course that's second hand but with a repair kit, and a good manifold + linkages etc filters should cost you more than 400 bucks.

<edit> talk to them about pricing (rhemac) as they may out source some stuff, you see they quoted me 220 bucks to have my master cylinder recoed, so I drove to Minisport and bought a brand new 'S' one for a 100 bucks less, so it's all relative.

Also think about what you need and don't need. Do you need cross pin diff?

do you need power? every man since the dawn of time has craved more power. That is in essence what man is. If Dale whats to have the most powerful mini here, Who are we to stop him? I think the only thing to do is try to do what most men would do, get behind him and cheer him on (Whilst secretly planning a bigger and more powerful engine! Mmmwahhahahah) Look just read my sig!

I'm going the cheap way. Stage 1 'S' motor plus 7psi of boost. Cheap but effective. However just imagine putting 7psi onto the 13K engine........ Run for cover....

I agree with Matt 100% - if you are not doing the work yourself then be prepared to pay for someone elses time and knowledge and expertise. If like me you like to get your hands dirty then don't throw your hands up in horror at what others are prepared to pay - just smirk to yourself when you score that 'bargain'. Oh and an item is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it not what you want to sell it for.

make sure someone is filming that race. Then just to make you both feel better, you can race against a V8 supercar. Just to put your engines into perspective.
