Yes camlube is OK if you can get it, but I find the MPZ stuff is too runny, and most is sitting in the oil by the time you start it.
I now use good old Castrol LMM Molygrease, it does the job. Good for engine building too, but NOT on the bores or rings... use oil there.

I will try and get the brand of the stuff Ian used last time...it was about as runny as prussian blue :!:

Good stuff...stuck like...well it was very good. I think Ian also used it to prime his oil pump....it was a fair while ago now  :!:

I think you will find that thick blue stuff is made by Lucas. I have seen it and used it but cant remember its name - very sticky and gummy but a very very low co-efficient of friction.

Hi guys,

I've used the cam lube that came with the cam from the engineers. I'll post a reply here of its composition or whatever - should be on the tube in tiny writing that cant be seen!!!

Anyway, back on track, should I purchase a brand new set of lifters??

Cheers :)

Definitely, IMO. Unless you want the risk of trashing your nice new cam....

New set of cam followers arrived today and they're coated in some greasy substance - do I just soak them in oil and put the cam grease on the ends before installation, or do I clean this sticky 'goo' off of 'em first?

Thanks

As promised, here's a pic of the tube of cam-lube that came with the freshly re-ground cam shaft. It's a small tube - no bigger than your thumb. Needless to say, there's none left!!!

Image

There's no tiny printing on the tube to say what composition or whatever, unfortunately, but it's bloody good stuff.
