hi i have put a 2.65 diff ratio in my mini. it has a 1100 motor with twin sus, electronic dizzy, 1.5 rollers, high compression ported and polished head and ive had it to 5900rpm in 4th and it scared the crap out of me. if anyone would no how fast this is id like to no i still havnt got the speedo recalabrated. i think it would be close to 200?

The 3.65 diff with 10" wheels gives 15.2 MPH/1000 rpm.
So, 5900 rpm = 89.68 MPH. 8)
Or whatever in KMH.. 145 I think.

<edit> yes, it does feel like 200....

<edit 2> I thought you said 3.65 (stock in Mini K and Clubby 1100). :?

Where did you find a 2.65 if it is one, I've not ever seen one listed. Tallest I know is a 2.76, used in Rover 998 built for France. They wouldn't pull the skin off a rice custard...

Yeah 2.76 is the tallest Minis ever had, and if you want one in Oz you have to pay for it! Take your average price for a 3.1 or 2.9, triple it and now we're talking  I would put a 2.9 at most, preferably a 3.1. But for the moment 3.44 is fine it means I'm always on cam on the highway!

yer 3.44 rev a bit to much for my liking i ment to right 2.75 instead of 2.65 sorry. mine is just sitting on 3000 at about 110km/h and it still pulls fine from down low.

i couldnt get any taller diff ratios when i tried, best i got was a waiting list behind 4 other people.. guess nobody wanted my money. i then used a rebuilt 3.4.

i think the 3.4 is the perfect ratio, but does need a 5th gear for highway cruising.

1000rpm 2000rpm 3000rpm 4000rpm 5000rpm 6000rpm

25.15 50.3 75.45 100.6 125.7 150.9
thats the a 3.65 on tens in km/h in 4th. i have got to 6700rpm but the car still felt good at that speed. 169.65 km/h that not too bad for a mild 1293

rearly? the 2.76 is fitted to all MPi Minis (from 1996, with airbag), and over here nearly everyone says you have to change that to a 3.2 or 3.44, and the used 2.76 is sold cheap as no one wants it (i got mine for 20€, think my turbo needs it)

Tallest we ever got in Oz was the 3.44  and that was only in the Cooper S, Clubman GT and later Clubbys.
Hmm, maybe somebody should throw a bunch of these unwanted 2.76s in a container and ship to Oz...

I had a 3.44 in my 1360, with 10" wheels- but this time I put a 3.65 in instead. It makes up for the extra camminess of the RE282 it has now.

Yeah over here 3.44s and 3.76s are a dime a dozen, most other ratios fetch good dollars though. Last quote I got for a 2.76 diff was something like $700

Most 1100 Minis here got a 3.65.
A 3.44 will cruise better, and still go up hills.
Much taller than this though, and you will have to row it along, like a 998.

The problem with a ratio like the 2.75 is having to change back a gear on the freeway when you hit a hill.
My 1275LS had a 2.95 and I loved it. My motor had enough power to pull it off. It was great sitting at 6000rpm on the freeway at about 130kph and then you change into 4th gear! 8)

Just working it out on Gearcalc....
2.75 gives you 110kph at about 3300rpm
2.95 gives you 110kph at about 3550rpm
3.44 gives you 110kph at about 4140rpm
