Yes..200HP hopefully at the wheels..250crank.. There are a few with that kind of power (4EFTE Hybrids)..13secmini had about that, Baracade has more on low boost (which is my max boost) and should get over 300HP soon when he starts cranking it...

Don't forget these are FWD times...the street tire record is about a 12.2 Alot of time is lost in the 60ft'er compared to RWD jap turbo's.

Lots of your posts are nonsense :?

I am being serious when I say 200hp at a minimum.

After feeling how an MY04 WRX accelerates........... and THEN he decided to put his foot down    . Even 4th gear from 40kmh would have crap on most fast a-series minis.

Sorry, but I have my benchmark figure, and I know what fast cars feel like..... and a mini has never given me that kinda head-throwing acceleration. Sure, minis can go thru corners quicker, and you can brake alot later....... but then you feel like you're crawling out of the corner.

But put that power into a fully-caged race or road car, with increased safety features of course.... either way, you could still die in an accident., it doesnt matter what speed youre doing.

But I believe the topic was "making minis go fast CHEAPLY"...... in which case..... no.

Exactly  8) But if you can get another 50hp ontop of that, why not make that WRX look like a COMPLETE loser, rather than an "I nearly had him" kinda loser

one is a tiny 40 year old front wheel drive runabout, and the other is a big turbocharged rallycar.
the mini was fast for its size in its day.

i think a hayabusa mini would be the cheapest way.

Was watching that DVD i got from the dyno day. There is a CRX in it and from stock, 105 kilowatts, which is a lot for it's size. Then they rebuild it and overbore it to about 1800cc from original 1600cc. Then they turbo it. They don't lower compression either and just crank pretty high boost, can't remmeber how much boost now. But they got, on low boost 180 kw's and high boost 230kw's. That's huge! The car was, stock running 15.8 1/4 mile, with high boost 13.2 and was beating RWD skylines. And they spent, not including paint job. $18,000 including the original cost of the car. which was 800 bucks, I must add this is kiwi money too! Mini is out of it's league with that stuff. But if you think not about beating people but about fun it's all good. Mini was fast in it's day so take on cars from it's day. And don't buy a mini to get the fastest car on earth, just do little things to make it a little bit faster and to handle better. Tyres help a lot too.

Stop talking crap!

Ok...CRX weighs ~986Kg - 308HP (230Kw) = 0.31HP/Kg
Ok...Mini weighs ~660Kg - 250HP (Starlet Conversion) = 0.37HP/Kg

A mini is no where near out of that league, especially for that kind of money.

13secmini ran a 13.8 1/4 with 180HP atw...

Obviously you haven't seen the video of mine at wakefield. I passed the WRX on the straight 3 laps later, not through a corner. I'm lucky if its got 160hp at the flywheel.

Ian Anlezarks A-series was doing 12.2 1/4 mile, are you telling me he had more than 180hp at the wheels?!

Paul Whiffins (UK) A-series had 180-220hp at the fly and did 13.3 1/4 mile with the gearbox exploding in third.

There was a guy in the 60's doing 13 sec 1/4 miles with a blown a-series and I'm pretty sure it wasn't a 1275 motor!

The point of this thread is you can't make a mini fast for cheap, I'd agree except that I haven't seen a car, V8 Jap or otherwise, quicker than me who has spent less!

Daniel

David Vizard one drag racing champion in his time. I'll grab the book and see what it was in.....doesn't say what it was in, just in '73, happen to know that Vizard was int many, many vehicles, he even wrote a book on tuning chevy small block V8's. I imagin in 73 he would have gone for a bigger, more powerful car for drag racing. Any one know what car he did this in??

Aha! Not vizard but close enough, in "how to modify your mini" there is a picture, on page 158, of Rob Tallis's clubby. He's run 13.7 seconds. In the 70s engine swaps weren't very popular as a highly developed mini was still king.

i wouldnt say cheapest when you think about the extra work involved, but by far the most powerful..

not much that is on the road that will do 0-100 in 3 seconds
