no real problems, they are a great little engine in standard form, if its the mg version then the haul fairly well in stock form(76bhp). also it should have an electronic distributer which is always nice, if not, FIND ONE, A+ points suck.
how much mechanical know-how do you have? i would suggest you read up on basic engine principles, and if you are getting a mechanic to fit the engine, ask if you can help/watch as you will learn, this will be worthwile in the long run if you intend on keeping a mini :D
most of all, HAVE FUN.

A+ was the designation given to the later version of the A series motor , a few changes to the block etc .

thats good, your on the right track, minis are the most fun cars to drive and fiddle with!

as for the a+ / a thing, the A+ is a slightly different engine, almost everything is different infact, i suggest having a read on the internet mini encyclopedia www.ime.org.uk
http://www.ime.org.uk/ime/a/about%20A%2 ... gines.html
good luck mate.

so what are the other things that can make the A+ engine goes harder in a cheaper way........like piston, cam, twin su front pipe and exhurst etc which is the easier way to start with............

Easiest to start with are the carbies and exhaust, you should get a reasonably quick car with a weber or twin su's. Both these are just bolt on power adders, whereas for cam, stroking, boring will all need the engine out and pulled apart to one degree. Pulling the engine out and apart will increase the cost dramatically. You could always port and polish the head - easy to take off and put back on while in the car. If you are on a budget, stick with the stock internals you have and go for the bolt ons.
