i have been having this delema for a while now and wanted to see wat is the best way to jack up a mini to get all four wheels in the air and secure it on jack stands without crushing anything.

the way i do it (please anyone correct me if you think im wrong) is: front- under the bottom arm mounts where theres a little flat plate on the subframe, and rear- on the rear jacking plates at the rear corners of the floor pan. an alternative for the front is the front tie rod mounts, not on the tie rod itsel, just where the cup mounts to the frame- the jack stand is very secure here and is self locating. but alway remember the couple of wheels under the floorpan just to be safe incase it falls off.
hope it helps and that i havent been doing it wrong all this time:)

I think the question is how to do it as those spots outlined would be occupied
by the hydraulic (or whatever) jack doing the lifting work.
I've done it before, but don't remember exactly how. :?
:D

front... jack from one side..... put stand under tiebar mount... put other stand on another flat part of subframe..

rear.... jack from subframe just behind (what's left of) the battery box and stick the stands whereever :)

From the good book for the front follow the instructions in the pics.

i used this to jack the front of mine up and place the stands. you can put the stands either end of the block of wood, or under the flat part of the subframe.

for the back the book says to jack it in the middle of the rear crossmember of the subframe. I put the stands under the flat part under the suspension cone, or at the outer end of the rear crossmember.

remember that the further outboard you can place the stands the more stable it is.

cheers
michael

Last time i tried it, I found my 3 ton block and tackle worked quite well. Got the car 900mm off the ground with ease  Yes seriously.
