hey

i have a 998 that i pulled down and building up,
i bought a 1100 motor which was stuffed so im going to use the crank out of it for the 998 block,
im going to bore it out a bit as well in the proses but im after a good set of conrods that would be best for my rebuild since i have a turbo to go on there,
the rods from the 998 block and the 1100 block are both 12g124 are there anything stronger that i could get or wat would be the best for my postion since there will be a bit of power coming from this engine

I use (And have always used) the 998 rods...

Throw away the rubbish rod-bolts and get a set of Unbrako Socket-Head Capscrews (Ask at your engineering shop, take a rod-bolt with you...)
Incredible Tensile strength...

I Also polish mine all over to relieve any stresses, nothing fancy or Bling, just removal of all the casting marks and flashes....

other than than, they are balanced end for end (Little ends all weigh the same, same for big ends..) and popped on the pistons

My "little" 998 is probably making close to 120@Crank now (Best guess based on previous dyno run with smaller turbo and head, it made 73@wheels, so about 105@Crank) and the rods dont seem to be in any distress .....

The rods are not the weakest link.....

As Kazjim said use the 998 rods strong enough just use socket head bolts
My supercharged 998 used standard balanced rods not polished or anything and never had a drama and made 100hp at wheels

Any engineering supply house, eg Blackwoods.
Definitely NOT Bunnings etc.

Ask "where they are made, (NOT China...)" and don't accept plated ones... you want black, please. :)
The plating causes hydrogen embrittlement which weakens the threads.

It's no bull- I have seen threads peel off plated Grade 8 diff bolts before they were up to recommended torque. :x
