What is the difference between A and A+ Mini gearboxes? I know the A+ had different drop gears but is there anything else? The A+ should have an 18mm mainshaft and a three step layshaft, but then I believe late non A+ rod boxes did too. Just wondering if there is any benefit to an A+ box, other than having to source a different primary gear

A+ 3 step layshafts last longer, as the needle bearing inside 1st gear end of cluster gear is bigger.
The gears have higher helix angle for less noise. Ratios not as good as Mk2 S I believe, but I don't have figures handy.

Can't tell you right now what the differences are, but all I know is that they are far superior to crappy non A+ rod change boxes

(mostly because A-series ones are all clapped out and hardly any of them have been rebuilt)

LOVE MY A+ stuff.

Well I'm looking to sort out a gearbox for my 1275 to go on, I thought I could freshen up my old rod box, but apparently it's fairly worn (I never knew! It seemed fine to me!), so the choice of gearboxes currently is an A+ box from a 1275 or a late A box that I believe has a three step layshaft. We will be having a closer look later in the week, hope to make one good box.

No much interchanges between them, you will have to use one gearset, or the other.
