i have a 4wd subaru touring wagon 1800 that i will be taking to the wreckers in a few weeks. You can have the whole thing for what the wreckers would give me if you want the radius arms as discussed before.
it is only a 2 cylinder (at the moment) and will probably be a 1 cylinder in a few weeks.

Floss. Please post up a pic of the Suby rear suspension so that people can see what I mean about the Subaru rear end being suitable for fitment. No strut towers required...

So would these trailing arms be useful for using with the swift AWD gear? Or would you have to use most of the subaru gear?
I'd like to use the swift AWD engine and tranny.. do you think using the whole rear subframe from the subaru would be easier?

Can't remember what the track is on the Subie 1800,
but it would be easier to modify the Subie subframe than make a whole new one
BUT
a) the Subie rear end (esp. the diff) is not as strong because it's only designed for part time use, but would be fine for on-road use
b) you need to have the right diff ratio

The Subie setup is also quite lightweight despite coming from a wagon

Honk,

The easiest way would be to use the whole IRS (independent Rear Suspension) assembly from the Swift, and modify your rear subframe well to make it fit.

As long as the original track wasnt too excessive, this would work a treat, as you would be using the Swift suspension, brakes, driveshafts etc.

Once you start talking modifying upper and lower arms, panhard rods, struts, braces etc you start talking $$$. Plus, there is always the possibility of getting the angles and geometry wrong. Compounding errors and all that sort of thing.

I have looked at the IRS of a couple of AWD cars now, and this seems to be the easiest way.

Regards,
Tricky

P.S. Mokesta - doesnt the subie rear upper and lower arms hinge off the diff housing?

Nah Arch. The Subaru I'm talking about has pure trailing arm suspension, just like a mini. The outer end of the trailing arm, where a mini camber bracket would live, attaches to a torsion spring (long splined bar like a drive shaft) that goes towards the centre of the car. The arrangement is like the front half of a mini subframe where the bit across the car is actually a tube.

The whole suspension assembly attaches to the body in just two places, about the place where the front mounts are on a mini rear subby. The only other mounts are the two shockies. The diff mounts separately so any diff could be used. The standard diff lives between the trailing arms and has wings on it to two mounts under the floor (to take the torque).

Should fit...it's wheelbase is 2364.74 millimeters...a mini id 2036mm ...so it's a ruler longer than a mini.. (wheel to wheel)
