I've got a DCOE13 and was told it was the pre-emissions type. cost me $450 including manifold, linkages and ramflo - bought it a couple of years ago from a guy in Sydney selling his mini on ninemsn carpoint. I think it was a reasonable price - some people will ask that much for the carb alone - sounds like a dello might be a better deal for ya...

Is there an online resource for weber information, ie: which models had which features such as the emissions gear.?

I did a search but i couldn't find anything other than hearsay.

My book "How to build & power tune Weber & Dellorto DCOE DCO/SP and DHLA carbs" by Des Hammill states that the best 40mm Weber is marked 40DCOE11 or 40DCOE2. These are pre-emission.


re the 45DCOE, there is a pic of a 45DCOE13, but no mention in this book of emission ones or any issues with the 45s.

Go get that manifold ported out, it makes a BIG difference.
Mine flowed ~137CFM on GR's flowbench before, it's 190+ now. :wink:

What is involved with porting a manifold? Is it more or less just smoothing the inner surface or do you actually remove a decent amount of material to enlarge the inside of the diameter?

What i mean is, i have a dremel, and time... or is it more of an art than that?

I'm gonna need to fix my gearbox before all of this but when i get round to fitting the Weber i'm gonna need to take it somewhere to get dyno tuned... any recommendations? My mate had trouble finding people who do Webers when he wanted his car tuned.

Yep. She's a bit of an art. And just because it looks good doesn't mean it works.

Something that i wouldn't attempt myself.

Well that sucks, i predict that fitting the wber is going to be an expensive exercise once it's all added up.

I hope i didn't pay too much for it... paid $410 for what you see in the pic (plus $15 postage).

I honestly wouldn't worry too much about porting the manifold - just whack it on and get it tuned. Trust me, you WILL have a smile on yer face :D

Basically, you match port it to the carb and the head, and enlarge and smooth out the bit in the middle- which is quite restrictive for a 45 carb.
I spent over 10 hours inside mine with carbide burrs in the die grinder. :shock:

If uou buy Des Hammill's book "How to Power Tune the BMC/BL/Rover 1275 A series engine" (~$40 at www.pitstop.net.au ) it explains it all with pics.
