Hey all,

Currently my 77 clubbie has a 1100 in it. Im looking at buying another 1100 and modding it ont eh side. Doing head work, cam, etc. Complete fresh rebuild. Im just wondering is it worth spending the money on this motor or should I just try to get a 1275? I ask because I can get a 1100 motor pretty cheap, and mod it so that it will hoon along almost for just the purchase price of a stock 1275 ($1000+). Cheers all, any advice is most appreciated .

Get the 1100 and have some fun with it , experiment and see what you can get out of it for reasonable money and later down the track go for the 1275 , one might turn up cheap when you aren't desperately searching for it . ALso don't forget if you go for the 1275 you'll also need to get disc brakes , they're probably advisably to get with a hot 1100 anyway but you'll at least have more time to get them than you would if you went the 1275 option straight up .

Hello,

It will cost you relatively the same amount of money to rebuild and mod a 1275 as it does to do a 1100, however the gains to be had on a 1275 i feel are much more than small block gains and apart from the initial upfront costs, they are better bang for buck.

I've modded Lillee's 1152 with mainly top end mods such as a GR modified 12G295 head, ported intake manifold on a 45 dellorto and i have about 40-43bhp at the wheels. If I did the same on a 1275 I think I'd be looking at about 60bhp at the wheels which is 30% more. That's HEAPS in the case of a mini

do an 850.... make it a 10000 rpm scorcher that'll eat 1275's for breakfast - at least for 1000km or so before it blows up
