i am gonna replace my mini lucas lights with a more reliable brand possibly.

any advie on what brand? if i should change them at all (the front left low beam dosen't work) ? if i should change the rear ones while i am at it?

what should i do? i want good reliable lights which are brighter then what i got now!!!


also what kind of spot lights do people have on thier bumpers if anyone here does. i got the joints to attache them, i just want to have a really bright mini at night when i am going on windy roads through the country.

I am also in the country dodging kangaroos at night.

I have H4 lightsinstalled in the mini. These are ordinary bread and butter reflectors from the local auto electrician (about $30 each) with 110/80 watt bulbs from Auto One (about $15 each).

I did have spots on the car but took them off as i felt I didn't need them and that they took too much current (standard lucas alternator). The H4lights really do give enough light and this is all i had even at the height of the drought when the roos lined the side of the roads looking for puddles of water and the faintest trace of a green pick.

I have always had a relay on the light switch (as should every mini owner) so the switch only provides current to the relay regardless of what lights are fitted and therefore doesnt overheat and burn out the high beam / low beam steering column stalk switch contacts.

Anonymous moderation means the agro that is built up towards the mods isn't aimed at an individual (fewer "Makk" attacks). Less stress for mods means less moderator "retirements".

Forgot to mention that to have good lights, regardless of what type, you need a good earth connection. That is, a good earth strap from the battery to the boot metal that has a clean metal to metal contact. Not metal to rust and not metal to paint. Clean it up with a bit of emery cloth and bolt it back together.

Then do the same with the earth strap that goes from the clutch cover to the inner guard.

If these two connections are not good then you will always have pale yellow lights.

You can't replace the headlights with LED's, everything else you can..

I'm running Hella H4's and find they are of a very high quality. Next step up from any H4's would be High Intensity Discharge Xenon lights..and they will set you back about a grand..

I'm running a Wipac Quadoptic kit I brought in from UK, it cost me about $100 incl post, landed at my door.
Uses H4 bulbs. Beam pattern and brightness leaves the old Lucas ones for dead.
I run a relay too.
