Hi,

I've got my carby on my car, and the car runs OK, but im not sure that ive got all the connections to the carby in the correct spot. Would anyone have a photo of what a 1 1/2" SU is supposed to look like all connected up,showing what should go where? Also, I have connected the accelerator and choke cables, but im not sure I've got them routed throught the firewall and fixed correctly.. Anyone able to help out?

Also anyone got any tips on cleaning the engine while its in the car? Anything I need to know? is it best if i drive it to the carwash, then wait for it to cool down before washing it, or am i better off doing it with de-greaser at home?

Thanks in advance.

Main one im not sure about it is a connection on the carby, possibly vacuum? if its not connected the car runs like a dog, if it's plugged then it runs perfectly. :?

Its the one with the hose on it, just above the fuel line.

this is the hose ur talkin about, but it may go elsewhere on urs.
hope this helps, most minis dont have this "upgrade" if im correct, it was a factory modifcation or somesort. otherwise im unsure where ur hose goes.

With my mini the hose you speak of runs from a breather on the back right side of the motor to a breather on the rocker cover. It is pluged on my carby as you can see on the 1st pic.
Just to the left and below that is the fuel line, and above and to the right is the vac advance for the dizzy

Image

The fuel filter is in the way here so you can't see the throttle cable. You can see it run over the top of the motor and then just see it apear out the bottom of the filter and run down to where the throttle return spring is. You can see the choke running from about the middle of the filter to the choke assy
Image

Here you can see the fuel line run accross the top, The vac for the dizzy, the little plug i was talking about and the choke(silver) and throttle(black) cable's

Both these shots show alternate locations for crankcase breathers....either is OK

Thanks for the info..
I've just checked where i Had everything, and it seems right, just a little bit messy. There is a breather on the right hand side that the hose goes down to. Might just try and re-route the hose so it looks a bit nicer.

If its the black box mounted on the inner guard, it's the heater.
Actually got sick of it being in the way all the time and took it out last night, i'll just wear extra layers in winter! Also have a new radiator now, doesnt smell like hot water when its running now, funny that :)

Actually, Someone may be able to help me out with what year the motor is, I believe that its imported, but not 100%, the engine number starts with 99HG30 266xxx. was Brand new when i bought it in '96.

The braided hoses are the heater hoses. i have them running through the inlet manifold. Good in winter, But i cant help but think it's a bad thing in summer.
