hey all, I May be on the lookout for some Ultra-low compression pistons for a 1275 ....

I'm thinking about 7.5:1 with stock chambers .....

Are they in existence ? what sort of brands / designs ?

Lowest factory compression 1275 would be a .......... ?

Cheers, Just doing some mental excercises....

Not sure of what's available but resist the temptation to do what a local lad did up this way a few years ago for a budget turbo conversion , turned the tops down on the lathe , don't think I need to explain what the result was .......

Like I said , it was a budget turbo conversion , started off low budget and ended up high budget , have you ever seen what it looks like after the tops have busted/melted out of a couple of pistons , the fragments go through the gearbox and the oil galleries ? Not nice , and when he showed me he expected me to be honestly surprised that it failed , just like he was .......

Lowest was 8.8:1 using the old Morris 1100S or 1275LS pistons.

These days equivalent is a Hepolite 21251.
But I wouldn't expect them to hold together over 7000 and NO I wouldn't think of turboing them.
There's bugger-all holding to tops on.

I would use Hypatecs, very thick in the crown- get GR to machine them out to whatever you want. They are pretty thick. He does this mod all the time to improve the dish shape on racers, or build strokers.
