I have got the honda dizzy already converted and i picked up the NEC MC -5187 igniter.

There is no mount, so the dizzy just moves about and pops out, how do you make this?? ( i have the mini magic article but im not finding it helpful). Can anyone help me out with this.

Also, im not too sure about the wiring

From the igniter unit I know which two wires run to the dizzy and another two run to the coil, then there is a black one, does this simply go straight to earth?

Also, on the dizzy there is another wire connector which on mine is not plugged to anything, at the wreckers had a yelow/black wire running to some small capacitor thing. Is this needed?

how would i test to see if the dizzy is working before i bolt it all in, is there an easy way to plug a sparkplug up and see if it sparks.

Also i dont have a hi voltage coil, will it run with a standard mini coil?? i just want to get it running first.

The pulsar is the more popular conversion has it has the built in ignitor, so it is all in one.
I now have a pulsar, but I used to have a Honda.

There was a thread way back on Honda wiring. Any photos I published may now not be available as I have changed ISP's.

I'll have a look tonight for the originals, but I should be able to help you out. At worst case I could photograph the old dizzy for ya. I was going to eBay it but haven't got around to it yet. The previous owner milled up a collar and glued it onto the base from memory. It requires a bit more work than the Nissan, hence the pulsar becoming more popular. Anyone can do the pulsar mod with basic tools and knowhow (which are all on here).

You must use the electronic ignition coil - it has a different resistance (Ohm rating). It doesn't have to be fancy. One from the wreckers or off the donor car will do.

hey mate. i have done 3 of these conversions. have you bought the one off ebay? or are you just using it as reference? i have made all new harnesses for my honda setups, much better than soldering or splicing honda wires. i can get some pics and draw a wiring diagram, but it wont be for a few days.

I didnt buy it off ebay, it came with an engine i bought.

Can it be any eletronic ignition coil or does it have to be a honda one? (in the mini mag they use a commodore coil).
I saw you guys mentioning restistors on the coils in a previous thread, where abouts is the resistor mounted if i go to a wrecker (so i make sure i grab the resistor too).
Does anyone have a coil? i dont want to journey out to the wreckers again.

Im not familiar with distributors at all, could i simply just drill it into place without the spacer+clamp??

It doesn't HAVE to be a Honda one, but the ohm rating has to match...the easiest way to do that is go back and get the honda coil (or go to Supercheap and buy the coil which matches the Honda model and yr the dizzy came from). I'd be going to the wreckers.

I didn't fit the resistor as I didn't have a radio - I think that resistor is just to reduce static in your ICE but someone else a bit more electrical might like to confirm.

Both the nissan and the honda (from memory) use the std mini clamp to secure the dizzy so you need to rig up something along those lines. Both have to use the coil designed for the electronic dizzy.

The Nissan setup costs less than $50 and 45min tops to do - is the honda setup that crucial to you?

The Nissan Pulsar one uses a stock 1.5 ohm `use with resistor' coil but without a resistor. A Bosch GT40-R works fine.

Not sure about the Honda though.

the honda dizzy is not at all important to me. I definetly would like elec ignition though. I have just bought this engine and want to get it running ASAP. I cant afford to spend more money on it.

the drive dog has been added to the honda dizzy so im almost there right?? just the clamp is missing, i also have bought the igniter box.

Its an 1100 with roadrallycam and 12g295 head. Would a standard 1100 distributor work ?? cause i have one of those lying around just to test..

The other problem with the engine is the 1 1/5 SU, which appears to be a mirrored carb on a single manifold.

To do the pulsar conversion i would need to buy the right drill bits? not much money i know, but it all adds up :)

anyone want to swap a converted pulsar for a almost converted honda?? :D hondas are better right.. sure they are!

Im really shocking with this distributor stuff, usually i just plug wires in until it works, so im not even sure how to wire up the original unit.

Sounds like you're almost there. Yes it sounds like all you need to sort is the clamp.
The 1100 dizzy would be Ok just to test the engine I think.
Check your PM's for more details.

Has the Honda body been modified at the base of the body so a Std mini clamp will fit on?

as far as i know there are no mods to the base of the body, teh std clamp slides on but it is way too wide. I assume this is the thing you are talking about that was glued on, a sort of circular sleave that the clamp can clamp on to.
(which i don thave)

It hopefully wont come to that ausmini. I have picked up the right coil today.

What i am trying to do at the moment is make a sleeve to glue to the honda dizzy for the mini clamp to clamp to. To do this, i have sawn a mini dizzy just behind where the clamp clamps, then i will drill through behind so this can slide over the honda dizzy shaft. As far as i can tell this will work (despite not looking the same as 1310/71's.

I just need to grind the base off this 'adapter' and then drill through with a decent drill, which someone i know hopefully has one of.

There is a wire that runs from the coil to the distributor with what i believe is a resistor inline, what is this for?

I have all the other wires between coil/dizzy and igniter matched up.

Now is it just a case of hooking a + from battery and a negative from battery to the coil?

That could be the radio noise suppression I spoke of. I deleted this from my setup and it worked fine (but I don't have a radio installed). If you get static in your radio then worry about how to eliminate it!
