I'm really excited at the moment, i've just bought myself a new mini, a 1978 Leyland LS. It needs a little bit of work before it will pass rego, and then i an start doing it up properly.

2 things that i need help with are:

The front apron (as in behind the front bumper) has had a hit in the past. it as a new bumper and grille, so they are both fine, but the pnnel underneath is rusted out. It really needs to be replaced, can i buy a new pannel, if so where from, otherwise will i need to buy and old front end and cut myself a fresh piece???

Also my carb has a flat spot at about 1500 rpm. once you get it above 3000 it revs fine, and it idles sweetly just below a grand, but trying to get it above 3 can be a probem sometimes. Is it just a matter of pulling the crb to bits and cleaning i ll out, or wh should i do to fix this.

I am planing to put a larger carb and a set of LCBs on once its registered, should i just do it beforehand though??? it is a standard 998, matching numbers even, what size will the carb on it now be, and what size would you recomend. I was thinking i might try to track down a nice 1 3/4 with a ramflow filter. Any sugestions???

I have seen a few replacement panels come up on ebay but $$$ I'm afraid maybe find a price on the replacement panel and see what a panel beater says....

I'm guesing but 1 1/4 for a 998 maybe you could go to an 1 1/2. 1 3/4s tend to be used on 1100s and 998s so possibly a bit big, but see what everyone else says......

All 1100s had 1?" carb (except the Morris 1100 Auto)

I am a big fan of the HIF44 and the pommie water warmed manifold which you you can get very reasonably from ebay in england.

Graham Russell has said that he has had a number of small block motors on the dyno with that setup and that although they had limited modifications, they suicked every bit of air and fuel the carby could offer.

Given the right needle and some adjusting this HIF is a very very carby. When and if you get one it almost certainly will need a kit throught it as the "O" in the choke goes hard and lets the carby flow raw fuel into the system.

That is not a Goulburn smile, that is a western suburbs smile.
