A heat gun and Scraper works really well on the inside gaurds& fire wall then a Wire brush on a drill or grinder. I did the whole rear and front end using this method :wink:

yeah...might have to go with something more hardcore though...coz the underside of my car is encrusted with dirt...maybe it was mud at some stage...but there's a fair bit under there...especially under the wheel guards...which makes sense :)

Maybe a really good high pressure washer? Not one of the hooby things, a fair dinkum one like they use to clean up bricks etc. Just don't bend any panels though that is most probably unlikely as the inner gaurds etc have plenty of shape.

you'll be surprised how much is under thier..and the scraper makes it a lot easier :wink: but do make sure you a mask and glass's

so sand is bad? i have a mask suitable for spraying (paint) would this be good for blasting aswell? would i be better buying that garnett sand stuff or something?

garnet is pretty cheap & well worth it over the amount of dust you get with sand

but if you must, that respirator for painting should do the trick

guess all this depends on what the 3 panel beaters i have lined up tell me this week :P if they can do it for ~$5000 then i'll not bother DIY'ing the body and paint work...if not then i guess i'll have to look into it...

I used a 4" angle grinder with straight (not cup) twistknot brush under the 850. Man, does it take that crap off, but you come out from under looking like a `coloured person'... (no offence intended) :wink:

well i went out and bougt a 25kg bag of garnett, cost me $38 im sure ive seen it cheaper elsewhere, but i was too lazy to shop around.....and went home to try it out, works pretty well on the subframes if you are patient and have a big enough compressor, mine could keep the preessure up but it was running practically the whole time as it says to sand blast at 6 bar in the instructions, and i beleive thats actually bad for the compressor? anyway, ill upload some pics later...

hahaha so you pay less than me and get alot more!! :( i think i might just pay someone, turns out i got a mate who is "connected" with a sandblaster, also got 2 mates connected with painters and one of them can get paint at either cost price or trade price, and another mate who works at a place that does truck stuff?? and they have a gieant spray booth there that costs a case of beer to use on sundays :D so i feel like im set lol

I had my cooper S PLASTIC bead blasted when it was done in '96.
I'm surprised cos I thought that option would have come up by now.

The plastic beads rip the paint off, but can't touch the steel. It simply polishes it instead.

I can still find beads even now if I go looking, the box section above the pedals is a good area to look.

Make sure you remove as much of the sound deadening as you can, this stuff doesn't come off very easily with the beads.[/b]
