OK, now I know why my mini ran so rough I decided to put her up on ramps.

I discovered a badly worn uni-joint (it's probably called something else) it's been so badly worn the couplings have been bashing each other around.

Are these joints and drive shafts readily available and what $$$ would I be up for?

I've seen them on ebay a few times, they don't seem to be too expensive (sorry can't give you exact figures).. Go to your closest mini place they should sell them, if not give karcraft a try.

Depending on the car there are 3 sorts could be..
1. Rubber donut joints on all Minis (except `most' Cooper S, also Clubby GT and MiniMatic) up to ~73.
2. Hardy Spicer universal joints used on those.
3. Pot joints used on everything, from ~73 on.

Sounds like you have the rubber ones- do they have 4 U-bolts on them?
If the couplings are badly beat up, you may need to change them too.

Do you mean the CV joints TimB??? If you just want the outer CV joint then it should cost you around the $100.00 mark per joint.

I just bought a couple from JED Motors at Officer and with CV boots, postage and GST it cost me $248.60 all up.

It will be sad if you have damaged the driveshaft flanges....from what I've seen the couplings and U Bolts are softer and more likely to destroy themselves.

You need someone who knows what they are looking at to assess your sitter-uni-joint-wation.....have you called into the Ford Dealer like I suggested

It's the inner joint that's stuffed but I should probably do the CV joints at the same time,
I initially thought it was the CV but on inspection it was clearly the inner joint.
Is JED motors a mini parts supplier or a general auto parts?

I live about 35km's out of Benalla so it is a little difficult to get my unregistered mini to the man at Delatite Ford. I will use him as my trump card when all else has failed. Are you related to this person or just know of him. Does he drive a mini because there are 3 getting around town at the moment.

My mini hasn't been on the road in 4 years. I purchased it off a friend of a friend who got it when he was 13 but never did anything with it. It was unregistered when he purchased it but said they drove it around the driveway and up onto a trailer no probs.

I new the car ran a little rough but when I drove 100 yards up the road I thought the engine and gearbox were completely stuffed (towed it the rest of the way). But every day I seem to learn something new (thanks to you guys) and manage to fix it just a little more (Got the engine purrrring) so I'm feeling OK about the mini experience at the moment.[/b]
