Like 9YaTaH, a thousand years ago when a mate and myself used to hillclimb our Mini's, we would have our tanks nearly empty then go the the local servo and get 3/4 Super, 1/4 Methanol then go for a quick, short drive until the mix started to work.

Certainly made a difference to the performance but not to the driving skills.... :?

Lmao - well it would be interesting to have beein in the car for that. Living on the land you always had a 200 litre drum of aero fuel on hand when people dropped in(as they did on the land) and give them a bit of a top up if they required it. I remember ripping across paddocks in a 202 red motor chassis(yepp - a chassis!!) with avcat in it. Loved the smell and geez it went like the crappers - apparently naptha flakes (mothballs) give you a big octane boost - have to try that one

Nowdays, this is frowned upon due to the fun nazis and their ways, R.I.P. fun!!!

I heard the best octane booster is straight toluene - just found this - http://www.elektro.com/~audi/audi/toluene.html

Not sure how hard / expensive it is to get on this side of the world however

no no avgas good close to normal petrol with its correct fuel ratio but methanol runs different ratio and burns colder so no good could spell disaster

There is nothing to be gained by changing the fuel without changing the spec of the engine. If you want to get any benefit from avgas you need to raise your compresion a bit. If you want to run methanol you need to raise your compression a lot!

When I was racing HQs we had to run Super (back in the early 90s) and we were running about 11.5 to 1 compression.
Then we were allowed to run avgas so the compression went up to anywhere between 14 to 1 and 16 to 1.
Now they are running unleaded (Optimax or similar) and they are around 12 to 1.
Now this was with HQ Holdens and if you tried the same compression with anything else would be risking disaster! It all depends on airflow and HQs don't have airflow!
