What is the torque of the oil drain plug on my 1973 Clubman GT? I have always used 50W or 40W, (tropical weather only on Guam) oil non-synthetic. Any additives? do you guys use synthetic what viscosity? Thanks

Manual states 40 to 50 foot pounds.

40 to 50 lbft sounds high too me. That is the same region as the head stud nuts.
My manual states 25 lbft for the "Transmission drain plug".
If you do it up to tight and strip the thread you are in a world of hurt. This thread needs to be treated with respect.
Use a new annealed copper washer on it if you can get one. Otherwise clean the existing one up on a bit of wet and dry.

OP asked for info. I quoted the Manual as I stated. However having checked another Manual it states 25 as Indigo Blue pointed out. Whether the Factory changed its specs or one is a typo, who knows.

25 lb ft never seems to be very tight when I've used my torque wrench. I now just do it by hand.

It's also in a much weaker material than the iron block. Hence the many stripped gearbox sump plug holes out there. I've fixed many in the last 50 years.
IMO 25 lb ft is plenty.

Which oil is better for the Mini, this are the only ones available on Guam.

Valvoline VR1 Racing Motor Oil 60W Conventional 1 qt (US)
or
Valvoline VR1 Racing Motor Oil 50W Conventional 1 qt (US)
or
Castrol GTX 32 fl. oz. GTX Conventional 20W-50 Engine Oil

I found Castrol gtx drops pressure too much when hot. Compared to other 20W50s.

I’m sure Guam has a number of more modern Japanese cars for which multi grade or synthetic oils are recommended… A 10W40 synthetic will be more than suitable.. far better than a standard 60wt.

Thanks everyone, does anybody know what the part number is for the oil filter for the Mini mine is the spin on type not the cartridge style

There's a few compatible ones. Z418 is the cheapest/easiest to get.
