Hi all
How was it determined that body number 2372 was the first SPO41 spec car?
Were there earlier number mk2 Cooper police cars?

After the Mark 1 the MK II Cooper S was supplied to NSW Police when they became available in 1969 prior to SPO41 being introduced in Sept 1970, but they were stock standard showroom models from a performance perspective, like all Mark 1's.

Car 2372 was announced as the first car built to SPO41 specification in the detailed specification document and in Service Liaison Summary 212.

The first batch of SPO41 cars were made with a date stamp of 8/70.

Sorry to nit-pick but if September becomes the 'collective wisdom', a car made before September could be suspected to be a 'fake'.

Fair enough point Bill.

The Sept date I quoted was not meant to be the build date stamped on the ADR plate but the time SPO41 cars came into service. The most important piece of defining data is car number 2372 of course.
