Can I grind “slots” in the diff housing and fit the later planet gear washers with ears into the slots to ensure the washers don’t rotate.

Yes you can. Mine has been done like that

It's a very good idea to do that, it will protect the diff housing against future wear.

Thanks guys, I presume you just grind enough to let the washer sit on it’s seat and hold the tab from rotating ?
Has anyone got a photo of the modification or of a A+ diff housing?

Hi, the A plus system is far superior, but choose a diff housing that has not had the old thrust washers eat into and make it wider ,if possible . Another bonus while you are at the carrier is to replace the output bush in the diff carrier and the same one in the crownwheel. They are usually very worn, and fitting a new bush (ata7378 ?) and then machining it to fit your output shafts makes the gearbox driveline so much nicer...I never do a gearbox without doing this cheers Lindsay Siebler and then there is the diff side cover bushes ...and ...and

The diff I pulled out of the gearbox was worn on one planet bearing, fortunately I have a second one that is not worn on either planet bearing.
I have a new crown wheel with bearing and pinion (3.1:2) and I will check and replace the other bearings.
