A couple of years ago i disposed of any old brake shoes, pads or clutch plates i had lying around that i suspected had asbestos material. I just didn't think it was worth the risk.

I'll say False. Surely braking would be done evenly on each side?

Tah...but I will wait for Kens thoughts/recollections...when Mini's were racing at Bathurst they did experience uneven pad wear (wedging)..so swapping from side to side was said to even out the wear and therefore make the pads last longer...

Hi Mick
Never heard of that
I see no reason for doing that as the wear should be even from side to side
The pads wear unevenly from top to bottom as the original calliper pistons had a step against the pad backing to tilt them slightly as they were applied. This was to stop squealing. Maybe they swapped them each side of the rotor to get longer life

Cars with longer pads used to get tapered wear. We would just chuck 'em in the bin and fit a new set.

Ron Harrop came up with special 4 spot calipers with two different sized pistons in the early 80s to try to prevent pads from wearing tapered. The idea never seemed to catch on.
