Hi, I’m in the process of reupholstering my low back front seats in my deluxe.
The 6 strips that are in the seat back (2 top to bottom and 4 side to side) over time have perished and become rock hard. So, 2 questions:
Are they meant to be elasticised?
Is it commercially available? I heard the Pirelli webbing is no longer available, so I’m looking to see what options are available to me.

Do an internet search and you will be given a number of choices of possible sources to try for Pirelli webbing.

I bought some modern equivalent webbing from a local auto upholsterer

I re-upholstered my seat probably 18 months ago. I purchased Pirelli webbing from Padgham Upholstery & Supplies in Melbourne. The webbing looked and felt identical to the original.

I used the same as timmy201. If you do use that tyoe pull it nice and tight to keep the seat nice and firm. The pirelli is the correct stuff and is better probably because it is less stretchy and so you prob don’t need to pull as tight. The example above looks a little loose but I guess it’s personal preference.

It’s worth trying out before you put the covers back on permanently. You don’t want it too soft or you will be feeling the seat frame with your lower back

It’s not that difficult. Just take note of the way the factory arranged the foam and the thicknesses and how everything goes together. All the little extra pieces give the seat it’s nice shape too.

BMC Australia actually did very good upholstery and if you read old motor magazines they mostly got very good reviews on their comfort and quality.

Ps. Take a close look at your old covers. You will sometimes see someone’s signature either the sewer or quality control.

I'm not sure what brand of webbing my bloke used but I know he got it from a supplier in Melb. A couple of pics if that helps.

I just did mine last week, not too bad a job to do. I used this type https://www.bunnings.com.au/grunt-50mm-x-10m-cotton-webbing_p4310868 because I didn’t want any give in it. Just pulled them really tight and turned out great - firm and supportive.
But the same shop sells all the different types, just that you end up with more than you need.

Is it best practice to powdercoat the seat frames, or is it similar to subframes where if rust forms under the powdercoat it causes more damage ? so just a hard chassis type spray paint is better ??

You don't see much of the seat frame once in the car so there isn't much benefit either way. I have done both - painted with a good semi-gloss enamel is more than enough.
The benefit of powder coating is that a good shop will sandblast then prime and coat to keep corrosion out. The frames are a fiddly thing to paintstrip or even sand down so blasting is the lazy way out. They don't look to have been primed originally, just lacquer coated, so anything you do will be an improvement.
