i am getting sick of stressing ever time I change my oil filter on my mk1s so I was thinking of putting a spin on oil filter conversion kit.

Any thoughts?

Also the conversations I have seen do not have provision for a wire that my existing oil filter head has see below. Is this for the oil light on the speedo?

Everytime i do my oil filter i take extra care not to strip the threads. And then on start up I pray that it doesn't leak. I take my time and replace any squashed seals with new ones.

Yes the wire is for the orange speedo idiot light. Going off memory. The wire to the oil bypass switch was cut off in late 68. Mine was tucked back into the generator wiring loom. The filter head still had the switch included until 1970. The Mk2 S didn't use the orange idiot light so there is no real need for it. The oil gauge overrides the need for an idiot light.

If your stressed over filter changing then stick on a "spin on" conversion. But don't stress over the idiot light.

Actually the orange light was from the oil pressure switch on the block, next to the dizzy. The filter switch light was the green one in top of the speedo in those Minis that had this switch. From memory, deluxe and Mini K.

I prefer spin on filters they are way less messy to change.

None of my 3 Mini K's had the filter switch. ('69,'70 and '71)
The spin on filter is so much easier..

The page from the manual is here, the dash has labels for the oil pressure warning light (from the oil pressure switch) and then the oil filter warning light (which is the one on the filter head housing). There is also a section lower on the two "Lubrication Warning Lights" which gives you an idea - and you can drive for 300 miles with a non-operative filter apparently!

Which light comes on if you earth out the wire to the filter?
Mine was connected to the orange light in the drivers side of the speedo.

The oil light came on when I earthed the wire. I guess if I put a spin on oil filter head I will have to rely on the oil pressure gauge.

I wonder if the clubman had a oil warning light

Actually it was the handbrake light but I think that was me when I had speedo out getting fixed and I put a temporary speedo in and I thought I would fix it when I put the original one back in which I will do in the next week or two

I was in a bit of a hurry at the time.

I was going to change all the globes. Do you know which globes suit?

The light on the filter is not an oil pressure light.
It's a light to tell you the oil filter needs changing because the bypass valve is open because the filter is blocked. (this can also happen at very low temps with oil that's too thick.)

Couldn't one machine up an adaptor that screws onto old style filter mount and accepts spin on filter?

Aren't they on ebay?!!
