Sorry Mick... ∆
That O ring is vacuum not pressure. If it leaks it sucks air = no oil pressure. ;)

Talking about that blasted O ring, a while ago I assembled the engine and g/box and installed it. I paid particular attention to the O ring while doing so. Cranked and cranked, no frigging oil pressure. Took the whole lot out, couldn't see any obvious problem with the O ring, put another one in. Installed the lot and hey presto, had oil pressure. No idea what the problem was/ what I'd done wrong 1st time around...

Maybe the first time...the oil pump wasn't "primed" and wasn't picking up oil?
Did you have the plugs out whilst cranking it? and
Whilst watching an oil gauge for the pressure to come up?

[I know!! Questions!! ]

9YaTaH,

Yes to all the above! I did everything in my power to avoid removing the blasted thing! Spent hours on it until it dawned on me it just wasn't going to happen...

all the oil must have drained out from Sunday night because thats when the car was parked.

no Mick - he said it drained out while the car wasn't running, it can only have leaked out past a seal - no pressure involved, oil sitting in the sump

I just started to try and change the fuel pump is there a easy way to change it while the engine is still in the car?

CV joint seal?

if it leaked out when it was parked then it's gotta be something low down, and the dipstick doesn't go all the way down to the bottom of the sump.

If it's stopped leaking out, use a piece of coat-hanger wire as a dipstick and put it all the way to the bottom of the sump, then see what the level lines up with on the gearbox...

Recently put an engine on a gearbox and measured the O ring before fitting it. It was undersized for the depth of the machined groove in the gearbox flange - i.e. the O ring wouldn't be crushed when the 2 were mated in the joint.
Rang the suppliers to point this out.
Used an O ring from an old gasket set.

take the carb off, and maybe the exhaust manifold too - gives a lot more access down the back of the motor

Is it an SU pump? They are a greater diameter than the original Goss pumps. You can do it but you'll take skin off.

Ok after changing the fuel pump there are no more leaks but the car cuts out under load. It idles and starts fine. As soon as i get up to speed in 2-4 gear it starts to cut and makes a misfiring sound. I think its a carbie issue would that be a good assumption?
How would i go about cleaning the carbie and find the issue?
