Timbo, definitely fire. The plastic frame to hold the foam in place had disappeared leaving some molten remnants glued to the filter cage along with heat damage to the bonnet etc. No doubt at all it caught fire. As mentioned above, luckily it happened when I was driving so the fire was sucked through the carby unlike Chong whose incident happened while the engine was idling in the garage causing all the damage it did...

Unifilter say on their website that they are available from Repco, Bursons and others. The trouble is, nobody can be bothered carrying stock anymore.

Touchwood, I have never had a fire there, if I did I would toss any filter and run short ram tubes. With mesh perhaps.

Mesh= flame trap, maybe. Also keeps rocks and spare parts out.

(Edit) or keep the Ramflo and mesh, but toss the foam and plastic basket.
