Is it possible to have an engine number 9F/Xe/Y5****H

It's the 'H' that has thrown me, does anyone know what it means?

Sometimes there are letters stamped on the end of engine numbers. Not sure why. I don't think they should be included in the engine number but.

I had a quick look through my photos and found 9 engines with either D, L, H, I, T or J. (Maybe a 7 or 1)

All are stamped on the right hand side of the rivet hole. Some upside down and they are on MK1 S and MK2 S engines.

The 'H' on my engine number is to the right of the rivet hole.

Any other thoughts on what it means.

It probably doesn't mean anything officially , I have seen all sorts of numbers and letters stamped on the end of mini engine numbers .It was quite common practice (although illegal) Usually If they don't have a matching engine number some people just machine the block and re-stamp the number that is correct for the car , and add another letter or number to the end , just in case there is another vehicle registered with the original engine number :(

Edit : The exception is probably blocks with an 'S' on the end of the number , which apparently means the block was porous and was sleeved at the factory
