how hard? i think the old owner removed the bumpstops on this when he fitted coilovers so it no longer likes big dips. I'd like to reinstall them however was advsied this might be a bit of a task. anyone have any tips on how to get it done easily?

i might just add, has anyone dealt with coilovers before? the old owner installed this as well. not sure though if that would cause the knocking. he said the knock was there from before.

Fit hydro ones instead? They mount on the arm and strike the suspension tower. Opposite to dry ones. You would need to drill the mount's bracket out to 3/8".
Use std ones not competition, they are too tall.

hydro bumpstops? I might look into that if that makes it easier and if it means the car doesnt sound like its getting hammered going over bumps haha

Might also be worth confirming your ride height and shock valving.

Too loose and too low aren't a good combo.

how hard is it to install the bumpstops? I think I would like to get that done anyway. although the coils feel a little soft sometimes. but they are new so maybe have not settled.

Buy the standard conical hydro front bump stops, not the comp ones.
They sit on the bottom shocky bolt, once you drill them out to 3/8". Hydro cars used a 1/4" bolt there but had no shocks.

So do you have coilovers or the coil springs that replace the rubber springs?

they were the spax ones. I almost think they are just coils that replace the springs. I should probably have a look underneath the car

Coilovers look like this and should be height adjustable and the shocks should be adjustable too. You should be able to make them firmer

If you have coilovers, the bumpstops are part of the shock unit.
Shouldn't need external ones.
But if you have coil springs YES you need them, to avoid breaking balljoints.

yep I have coilovers.


the old owner told me the knock was there when going up on driveways.

however I still get the noise now. although now I get it when going over a big dip that compresses the suspension. and the knock is still there when I go up a driveway at an angle. Any thoughts? I tried to have a look if I could see anything bent. Cant really see anything though.

Have you checked other things such as ball joints, tie rod ends, rack bush etc.
Those cracks don't look too nice.

The stock inner wing is not designed for the stresses of coilovers..!! No wonder it cracked.

Do these bolt on kits need any engineering mod plate. Anyone can just but a kit and stick it in.
