It dose not have to cost more than the car is worth, if you want to put the time and effort in.

We are only talking about things made from Metal and rubber, that put smiles on faces.

The parts costs for Minis is very reasonable if you stay standard.

If you step away from standard parts and don't like the extra cost TUFF.

If you want to go fast without spending the money, don't buy a Mini.

There are many people who are happy to put time in with the young Mini people, IF THEY want to also put the time and effort in on there Cars. It is not easy too do up a car, it is a Bl**dy big job.

Example..The Mini we are doing up at the moment.

Extra Trim $400
Brake and clutch bits $200

as flapper said if you can do the work yourself and are prepared to chase parts and restore what you can buy what new?parts that are out there ,put the effort in to cutting out the rust rebuilding panels ,engines ,redoing the upholstery the interior trim ,removing the accumulated crud blocking back the paint work respraying .and at the end pat yourself on the back and proudly say "i did all this " It is a great feeling .then get out and enjoy the car. don't be afraid to drive it , BUT on the other hand there are some people (posers)that pay to have it done put the car in a bubble don't drive it and have the gall to say i did it .they are in all groups whether it is a mini ,Holden or Ferrari .
If you can do the work great,if you are not sure ask there are plenty of us in the same boat.and there are many people out there willing to help, advise assist or point in the right direction.
and unfortunately there are those to deride criticize rubbish and destroy those who at least try.
I got my fist mini 43 years ago and over time from knowing nothing and some say still know nothing. I freely admit i don't know enough but am not afraid to ask for help from some really good people in the mini world .

enough of rant people enjoy you mini for a little car that was not supposed to last very long we will unite and take over the world :) :) :)

at the end of the day if the dollars to restore a car worry you, you'd better walk away now.
if I counted up the money I've spent on my car (and I've been the one doing all the work) I wouldn't have started.

The same principle applies to other things in life that cost money, not just cars.

Some time ago I did a quick mental calculation on the lifetime cost to raise our three children, all now in their twenties or thirties. When you take into account food, clothes, education, sporting equipment, medical, club fees, etc. it's a mind-boggling number. Luckily I'm a senior citizen so I've conveniently forgotten what the total dollar value was. :(

Pets - that's another category that reduces the bank balance considerably with no increase in the value of the asset.

I won't even try to assess whether I got value for money. :)

Spot on Flapper.
It's in your hands how much you spend, how much you can do yourself, and if you need to palm a job out, shop around, don't be taken for a sucker. Have a go yourself on some of these jobs, doesn't matter how long it takes, you'll learn heaps and get great satisfaction when you have finished.

Come on, have a go !!!!
P.S. Flapper does all his own work, look at his latest project, bloody great looking job Flapper.

Thank you, It's Acrylic paint (Valspar).
Am currently starting to cut the paint back, which I do not enjoy doing.
