Hey guys and girls,

I thinking of doing a gti conversion in my clubman ... anyone who has done it might be able to answer this question.

Can you use the disk brakes that come in the halfcut .... if so what size wheels can u fit on .... or do u have to fit mini brakes?

Lucas

anything is possible, but most conversions still use mini running gear...best option is to go either metro 4pots or camira's..

Why do it by halves?

I have put a few examples on here that show you can pick up whole cars almost as cheap as a half cut....have a think about going that way....at least then you may be able to recoup some of the cost of the car by selling the remaining parts.

Another suggestion is to watch the damaged vehicle auctions....look for a rear-ender where the fronts untouched.

I used to own a Suzuki Swift, so I mainly went to redlinegti.com forums.

http://www.redlinegti.com

Watch out there for all sorts of parts for GTi's and Swifts in general.

Occassionaly Engine + Gearbox pop up fairly cheap.

I bought a complete '91 model for $1400. Sold the shell for $600 and my seats for $400 (so effectively the gti seats for $400).

Everything I need for $400. Have since sold bit's and pieces and I reckon i'm actually ahead.

Questrion, whats easier to drop in, a Gti Engine, or a 4EFTE?

And how different are they powerwise, pretending for a moment they were both turbocharged :P

If you were considering a conversion and you had a clubman you would be silly to do a gti.

Power:
Gti - 100hp
Starlet - 133hp

However, like any turbo charged car, it is VERY easy to get more power out of the Starlet. Don't get me wrong, you can get enough out of the gti but......the toyota g/box is much stronger.
